how long does it usually take until you have to clean your filter?

That's a good question. What the best way to clean it?

buy the K&N cleaning kit. It's simple. I do mine every fall, but only drive in summer.

Hold on a sec. For the filter, when you first install it, do you have to buy the oil to spray on it? Or is that only after you clean it. I'm confused on this matter. If you do have to get the oil, how much is it?

You buy the K&N cleaner kit to CLEAN. K&N's come oiled so no need to spray anything on when installing it initially.

The box the cleaning supplies came in said to clean it every 50,000miles or something like that. But that is for a filter that is inside a filter box. Our exposed filters, if cleaned once a year should be fine. If you are driving a lot in snow, mud, dust stuff like that. I would clean it every 6 months. Also, remember when you clean it not to overspray the oil. It's been posted on here that if you do, you can suck the oil into the MAF sensor and cause a CEL. They had to clean the screen and the CEL went away.

I bought mine from desdog, for about $10. It was the K&N Filter Cleaning Kit. A lot of places sell them, I don't know about Pep Boys.

I clean mine about once a month. It makes a huge difference. Plus cleaning it that often gets me away from the wife for a while.

Not if you want a clean filter all the time.

K&N actually says to use the dirt to your favor, it helps the filter it says. Here's a quote "Let the dirt "build-up" work for you; it will not hurt the performance and actually help filter the air.

If it is a oil based filter I don't see why the K&N kit wouldn't work.

I've had my car for a year now, its stored. But when i bring it back out im gonna do a tune up so its up to par again after being store for that long. Anyways i only have 9000kms on it and about 6000 on the CAI, theres no need to clean it right?

The easiest way to find out is to listen to it. Does it sound the way it always did? The best way is to look at it, if its all black clean it. If its still red you are ok. Most likely one side will be dirty and the rest clean, because the dirt its just one side of the filter.
