: Next gen Headers-Ceramic coated
STEVE 02-03-2004, 07:56 PM I have a local company that does great ceramic coating, and I was think of getting these Stainless Headers coated, to give it that permanent polished look, so it won't blue, and to keep the temperatures cooler.
Any advise on this? (i.e. Good, bad, buy another already ceramic coated, not needed, etc...)
The Power of Dreams 02-03-2004, 08:42 PM Do it. I detest when SS headers turn color. You don't need to buy another set of ceramic-coated headers. Just send those out. :)
STEVE 02-03-2004, 08:46 PM Should I do inside and out or just the outside?
Dopey 02-03-2004, 09:57 PM The only thing I would worry about is if they get the coating too thick and then they won't fit. Like EvilDylan was saying with heat wrap they won't fit.
But, Hot Shots is making theirs ceramic coated, so it can be done, just something to think about before you do it.
The Power of Dreams 02-03-2004, 10:00 PM Well both if possible. I remember when I was going to sned my Pahaake intake to get coated and they said they can do both inside and outside. Honestly, it just depends on how much you want to spend. At least get the outside. If you want maximum thermal resistance, do both inside and out. Just M2C
thajaymann 02-03-2004, 10:17 PM I love the way the stainless steel headers look....mine actually just turned gold...hmmm i guess they'll keep changing???
USMCGunRock 02-03-2004, 10:27 PM ohhh...rainbow color changing headers...oooohh

You think getting them ceramic coating might cause fitment issues?
sick shift 02-04-2004, 11:39 AM Yeah, Jaymanns look nice and Gold.... very sweet... but SteveGels are this very dull brown... not sure why that is... I guess every car is different...
The Power of Dreams 02-04-2004, 01:09 PM It won't Steve. The ceramic-coating isn't thick. And if it does cover up the bolt holes, you could easily drill them somewhat larger to accomdodate the bolt once again. You'll be fine with the coating.
Fray Adjacent 02-04-2004, 01:11 PM Anyone got any idea what the ceramic coating would cost? I'm probably going to be getting stainless headers with my tax refund.

Not much actually. Try Jet-Hot Coating. Particularly their Sterling finish I believe. They are very good.
Fray Adjacent 02-04-2004, 01:47 PM oneandonly1, that looks pretty nice... The sterling finish would be real nice! Just need to know what their prices are like... I can't send an email to 'em from here, so I'd have to wait until later. If it's not too exhorbitant, I'd like to do that to the headers I'm getting soon..
The Power of Dreams 02-04-2004, 01:50 PM I believe they told me $8 per foot on intake pipe. They also quoted me on headers and intake manifold but I forgot and since then I erased the corresponding e-mail they sent me. However, do send them one with dimensions if you choose to and even if you don't have dimensions they will give you rough estimates since they do this ALL the time. Also, you will probably be speaking with Todd.
Good luck!
STEVE 02-04-2004, 02:24 PM I'm having them do some work for me from my strut bar (polished), valve cover (polished), and headers (polished).
I got a quote for right at $40 for the strut bar, $60 for the valve cover, and somewhere around or under $200 for the headers. I have to call again to be sure for the headers price.
Myerac Scythe 02-04-2004, 02:44 PM Let em blue..mine are a sortta blue velvet watermelon flip flop color right now!!
Fray Adjacent 02-04-2004, 03:15 PM $200 for the headers? Ouch.... considering the headers I'm gonna get are about $250.
At about $8 per foot of pipe.. the headers are maybe 10-15 feet total... that would be like $80 to $120 or so... THAT isn't a bad deal.
STEVE 02-04-2004, 03:29 PM Like I said it might have been a lot lower, but we were talking about all kinds of different pricings, options, etc. I will call him bakc to ask though.
Fray Adjacent 02-04-2004, 04:23 PM Quul Steve... let us know what they say. I would love to have the stainless ones coated...
Keith03GT 02-04-2004, 05:15 PM I'd be interested in the price to ceramic coat the headers too.
Let us know.
STEVE 02-04-2004, 06:19 PM If you want I can see if there are open to a type of GB pricing.... I did see samples of their work, and it looked chrome (very nice!).
I would be up for a cheaper price as well as I know most of you would. LMK if there is enough interest in doing this...
roro22 02-04-2004, 06:54 PM i emailed jet hot this morning to get a price, they already emailed me back.
Dear Rolando,
The price to coat the pair of V6 headers,in&out with the sterling silver
finish,is $195+s&h back. Add $20 for the flat black, blue or grey finish.
We'll need them here for 3-5 days plus shipping time back.If the parts
are chrome or nickel plated, add $40 to the total and 2 days for
stripping.I will send you our full information package to get you all
the coating benefits in greater detail. It will not turn colors like
chrome or stainless. Also it lowers under-hood temperatures by 40+
degrees, keeps the pipes 25% cooler and gets you 1-3% extra horsepower.
Of course, it's highly rust resistant as well(140x better than paint).
Because of that we expect it to increase part life be 10x or more.
Jet Hot also carries a coating called Jet Hot 2000. This coating runs up
to a temperature of 2400 degrees. The Jet Hot 2000 only comes in a flat
black, blue or grey finish and has a gritty texture on the outside. The
Jet Hot 2000 runs $25 more than the sterling silver finish and $5 more
per ft. This coating takes 2 days longer than the sterling silver
process. We suggest Jet Hot 2000 for set ups with nitro, turbos, etc.
All parts receive a 3 year unlimited guarantee that covers chipping,
peeling, cracking, discoloration, rusting. New parts also get a
lifetime rust through warranty as well.
Please ship your parts to:
Jet Hot Coatings
5602 Orchard Rd
Pascagoula MS 39581
or
1840 West Drake Dr
Tempe AZ 85283
Please note: Jet Hot 2000 is only done in the Pascagoula,MS location
Just be sure to include your name and return info so we know who they
belong to and specify the finish of your choice. As for billing, you
can either include a credit card number with the parts or you can call
one in to the phone number listed below. Please feel free to call or
email with any other questions.
Thanks

STEVE 02-04-2004, 07:20 PM $195... awesome. I will check with my local guy to at least have something to compare to.
The Power of Dreams 02-04-2004, 11:56 PM Ah Steve, I remember you have V6 so that's two headers basically. Mine was cheaper because of I4 header. My bad. Forgot about that.
Medrivfast 02-05-2004, 12:10 AM Get the Hot Shot Headers. They are allready ceramic coated. I love mine. Contact Fixer to get them.
scuba steve 02-05-2004, 02:51 AM aren't the hot shot headers like $700? i want ceramic coating too, but i already bought nextgen's a while ago, so i might as well get them coated instead of them just sitting in my den. is there any chance of a gb? if not i might just contact that jet hot place.
DanielG 02-05-2004, 05:03 AM was think of getting these Stainless Headers coated, to give it that permanent polished look,
Ceramic coating does not keep the "polished look". After just 20 km/miles, look at my manifold in the pic below..... It becomes a flat white/grey.
You should do it inside and out. And you should have no problems with fitting after. Ceramic coating is very thin.
