I just got a call today saying that i got my big sponsor for this year.a little late,but got it. I just need a little advice. Give me some thiings that you guys think i should use the money for on this car. 2003 GT. I am already buying the turbo,so no need for that.Have exhaust,battery relocation,intake,body kit, lights,interior,sound system.What is something that i should do to this car for about $7,500 bucks? 8)

How custom of an install is your stereo? Maybe get an all out custom install with T.V.'s and amps galore. Or maybe a really intricate paintjob.

Get rims (if youdont have them), if you show the engine bay, get some of T.C's stuff anodized/polished. Stage 2 SC kit, more interior.
I dunno, but i wish I got that kinda money from a sponsor (just a sponsor would do :-\ ) More unique body kit.

Shop around for something that really makes the car stand out, either in looks or in performance. Bout the only advice i could give since i dont have 7,500 to blow on my car (must be nice).

If you have a sponsorship through GReddy, MSD, and BF Goodrich, wouldn't you have to go with their products? Last time I spoke with some of the reps, they don't give you $$ to buy other people's products...they give you their products...

They are giveing him their stuff, plus money ;) More sponserships more products all the time for our Tibs it getting hard to keep up on what i need to remember to buy :D

I am fully aware of them doing contingency sponsoprships, or partials on unknowns, but shelling out extra $$ plus product just doesn't sound right to me.

I stated who the sponsors were. At least thats what they should be. I am suppose to you msd,and Greddy's products. But BF Goodrich is providing me with $12K for shows. Traveling and getting to these shows isnt free. But Greddy is suppose to show a contract for another $3K to get parts from Nextgen,but im not sure if they will or not.

Quick question. What was your last show car? 'Cause I've never seen sponsors give out that kind of money to first time builders, especially of incomplete cars.

This stinks with BS. I have a sponsorship. Not untill I dropped 5k into it. Even then all I get is free labor and cost to local shows.

The idea of sponsorships and the reason companies sponsor people is to advertise their products. They will give you their products to use thinking people will see them on your NICE car and then want that part for their own car.

No company is going to sponsor you to advertise another company's products - its that simple. A sponsor will give you things like a set of rims, some tires, decals..etc. They dont just give you a pile of money and say "here, throw this at your car with whatever you want".

But as far as i know everyone is right. Sponsors dont just hand out money so you can buy whatever the hell you want. Yeah they may cover charges for you but not just hand you free cash and tell you to go wild buying there competitors products and dont come back and say oh go have your mommy buy it cause iv payed for everything my self and yeah i have had sponsors maybe not for my Tiburon but for my s10 and for my piantball team and when i raced sno cross...

StreetShark...you are wrong...they do give $12K to some show vehicles...such as Alma Gates' Beast sponsored by Kicker, Or individual demo vehicles. I was the first to call him on this, and I stick by it 100%. Mystic, you can be angry or bitter all you want, and if it is true, more power to you. Message me with the names of your corporate contacts...I'll give them a call and see if they will get me a deal as well.

That is becaue there are still people who exist on this site that don't appreiate bull**** and lies, and if they feel someone is being dishonest, then they are quick to call someone on that. I still don't believe BFG, GReddy, and MSD would sponsor an unknown, especially one with a show oriented vehicle. As far as being sponsored, I don't feel the need to question you on that, had you said honestly that it was through a private company/shop, instead of some of the big guns of the automotive world. I know for a fact that sponsorships are given for a variety of vehicles, from a partial to a full, through hard work. You have to be an established veteran of at least a few seasons and wins for them to take notice of you, or invest an obscene amount of their product and money into your vehicle.

maybe you should donate some of that money to the less unfortunate (me) that can't afford to pay for their car, college, and mods all at the same time. lol. j/k man rebuild your engine and maybe lower it or something.

How about getting a carbon fiber rear hatch. It would be costly to make (it would have to be made from scratch) and you would definitely be the only one to have it! Just an idea that I don't have the money for ::)

I would like to add, that if these companies are throwing this kind of money at you, that you should have a really good idea as to what YOU need to do to your car. A lot of us know the ins and outs of sponsorship, and having biggies like BFG and others throwing bubkets of money at you like that means that your car has been in a few major mags, 1 or 2 covers, a feature car in a big to-do car show, not to mention its GOT to be a trailer queen, AND youre doing 20-30 car show appearances yearly. Sounds fishy to me bro. Never seen your car, I cant see things being this good, this easy! Just my 2 cents!

Actualy, for your information, my "mommy" has not dropped one dime into my tib, nor has my dad or anyone else.

I work and go to school 4 days a week - I pay for my car and all mods my self. Sure with paying for school myself as well my tib is not heavily modded - but then again, at least I'm honest about it :biggrin:

There's no way in hell you got those sponsorships you CLAIM to have...

1. NO SPONSOR in their right mind is gonna dole out all the **** you're claiming to have comming unless YOU have a very clear view & can make them also see your view on where your car is going...It's just not a good buisness practice at all...

2. NO SPONSOR is gonna hand that much **** to someone who's a noob in the industry...ESPECIALLY not parts & cash ...again...not a good buisness practice...Most first run sponsorships are a partial sponsorship or very small cost items...

3. NO SPONSOR is gonna hand out that much **** to a person when that person hasn't invested AT LEAST 2X what their product is worth ( in some cases, that may differ ) on the car by themselves....


Ya know...There are SEVERAL sponsored Tibs on these boards...& any one of them will raise the BS flag on this post....

If it's as done as you say, then let's both do each other a favor. I shoot the car and write an article for a magazine, you simply let me shoot. It will get your sponsors publicity that they want, and it will get me some money in my pocket. I'm 100% serious about this, email me please - slapshotnerd@hotmail . Ask fixer or any of the older SoCal guys, they'll tell you who I have worked for.

What he's mentioning is NOT unheard of. For someone who, to our knowledge, has not built a car before and has not appeared in a show to date, it is. But if he suckles on the right person's earlobe, he might actually be getting what he says. I know Budweiser / Ciclon spiced rum wrote out a huge phat check to a socal show car to get COMPLETELY redone - marble paint job from the chassis up, a bunch of custom body work, fish tanks all over the car, something like $15k in body work PLUS travel expenses to some selected shows. But this was a car that has been on top of the show circuit for the past 4 years, has 4 28" plasma screen tv's in the back, etc.... so he wasn't joe shmoe. I am very good friends with a consultant who has had numerous clothing and lifestyle companies hit him up, asking him which cars to sponsor, and he's been paid big bucks to tell them to shell out $3k, $5k, and even $10k to cars IN CASH, just to run a sticker and promote the company. But again, these were all big show cars that were well known, and all had publication lined up. So although it' s unheard of in this specific situation, it does happen believe it or not.

As for what to do - in the car show scene, it's all about custom stuff. If you think your 17's will fly, you're dead wrong. At least 18's if not 19's to compete. I'd suggest multi-piece, maybe some racing hart c2's or something similar. There's 2500 easy. Then, i'd go into the bodywork. Some custom shaving and modling, and a custom color. Everyone jocks street concepts' tiburon (the supercharged v6), and the 3 biggest compliments are the custom carbon fiber everywhere (mostly under the hood, but also the wing), the color of the car (signal auto red), and the suade wrapped interrior (dash, seats, all with colormatched stiching). Paint the car a custom color, maybe even add a Kandy or a pearl or something like that. Make your car stand out. Then, move to the interrior. If you don't have race seats, then get those. And a cage. Otherwise, get the dash and seats re-wrapped in suade / tweed / leather / something custom.

sure am. i'll be at import motion in sacramento this weekend, nothing on the 14th, considering IDRC in Phoenix on the 21st, D1GP at irwindale on the 28th, and HIN LA on March 6th. Then I have a week off while I turn 21, then off to daytona beach for spring break.

Hi guys I was gonna stay out of this one, but man, it's just not right... the reason why I'm posting is cause posts like this will make others feel like crap if they never even get offered a FREE sticker in all their show life... Trust me I've had people pissed at me at shows for being there, cause that killed their chances at getting more sponsors or trophies...

As far as getting 12k, trust me it's possible, but like others said, you better have spent at least 20+K on your car first to show them what you're capable of... You must show what you have in mind and what you're willing to do...

First off, Kal, Alma is no longer with KICKER, she is with JBL! If you had half a brain you would know that. And as for you, Mystic, let me finish reading and I will be with you shortly. Now understand, I am sponsored by everybody in my sig and have been for over a year now and unless you are with Primedia or some large organization, you are not telling us the truth. Compensation for travel is no big deal. I get that from whoevers booth I am in at certain shows, but no one just gives you money. Hell, Richard Zamora has the "Best" show car in Texas and the money he gets comes from winning Best of Show all over the state, not from sponsors. So give me a few minutes to finish reading and I will approach this topic again.

Ok, to summize what I feel this thread is, is simple. The author of this thread is lacking attention and for once found a place to spout off conceivable ideals that others have and have not encountered. With all of the sponsorships I have had, the only ones to ever give money was for compensation of travel expenses. Never once did I receive monetary compensation for the building process. That takes your own money. As slapshotnerd, Mr Tibb and Batlord all mentioned it is not unheard of to give a reknown show vehicle money for a rebuild or a person that builds numerous show cars money for a new project, but it takes experience to acquire that type of sponsorship. Without being rude or ugly in any way, I would truly like to review your proposal and/or contract to see if maybe there is something there that I am leaving on the table. However, since I have helped many write proposals which have been successful, I am sure that mine are just fine. At any rate, please understand that even though this thread slowed down 10 days ago, that there are still people out there that read and try to learn and you feeding them this line is not cool. Either prove yourself, which yes you have to do with a claim like the one that started this thread or move along. Thank you for your time.

BTW, my older friend (friends with his daughter, too) works at MSD in their R & D department. We both live in El Paso, TX where MSD is stationed. Who did you talk to to get the sponsorship? If you can't provide a contract, I will be more than happy to go with my friend and ask the higher ups at MSD here. They are really cool guys BTW.

BTW, there's only so many things you can get from MSD to put in your car. If you REALLY got a sponsorship, it's gotta be a small one... and you're gonna need more performance than just the SC with 8 PSI to get MSD to notice you.
