I just got an email from

Tony Meyer
National Sales Manager
S.A. Alpine Developments, Inc.

He offered me the Alpine SC for the discount price of $2760. He said that they set aside a number of kits for military personnel (which I am) and sell them at a discount. Does this seems like a fair price? I gotta try to convince the wife, but hopefully this will be mine.

Well its a few hundred cheaper then what ive seen. But word going around is Hyundai is releasing a turbo between $1200-$2000 along with a bunch of mods.Nobody knows the HP gain yet,but it should be covered under warranty.I hear the alpine is reliable but i would put my money on the turbo if hyundai warrantys it.

A brand spanking new GT32 Garrett turbo MSRP's at $1500 or so...

No way can a V6 turbo kit go for $1200. The turbo manifolds alone for the V6 would go for $1200. Or the installation alone for a turbo might be $1200 but not an entire kit. Maybe the tubro itself for a V6 would be $1200.

i severely doubt that hyundai is gonna release a aftermarket turbo for their cars. There's just no money in it for them right now. Adding a turbo to a car is just gonna cause them more warranty work which will run their profits into the ground.

hyundai making a turbo for the Delta kinda strange to me. Most of the time car companys slap stuff like that on there concept cars for auto shows and stuff like that to get feed back. all of hyundai concept cars with a FI Delta's used a Roots S/C looking like a modified Alpine kit.

Well, you have to look at what a turbo actually costs to make, and what people charge you for it. I'm willing to bet there's a HUGE markup. A T/C is actually a very simple device. Sure, it requires some good machining to balance the blades in the compressor and turbine, but hell, my $5 kitchen knives are precision machined, too.

The manifolds themselves have got to be marked up, too. You know why all those turbo and superchargers cost so much? Because people will pay it.

And the deal about Hyundai offering aftermarket upgrades like a T/C or S/C... you know, that might make some people shopping for a new car really consider getting a Hyundai. "gee, I could spend $25,000 on an RSX, or get a Tiburon, and have them put a T/C on it for a little more and still spend less. I should get the Hyundai!" See what I mean? They're probably not angling to make money on people who already HAVE a Hyundai, they're gonna get more business from new car sales. Makes sense to me. Plus being able to offer the kits cheaper, as they will be getting them in large quantities. Think about it. Anybody with a Hyundai anywhere in the world could get the kit, and it would be the SAME kit we get here in the US.

Although, I will say $1200 seems a bit low... Even if they'll sell the kit with all the parts for that much, they're gonna bend you over on the labor charges to install it. Just my $.02

There is a big difference between buying a production car engineered for boost and slapping an aftermarket turbo on a high compression car.
