Ok, im really ****ing pissed off with this! I got my AEM CIA in today, so i printed off the DIY's got all the tools out to take my time and have a nice ORGNIZED install! Well since i was going by the book i pulled out my USELESS hyundai manual and opened to the flat tire section. I read the details and noticed where THEY said to put the jack.. SO i put the jack in that VERY place...i jack it up almost all the way, and then what? BOOM! the damn jack slid and pushed the metal forward! so now there is a gap bewtwwn the gills and my door! Why the HELL cant they make a damn manual!! EVEN HONDA CAN DO THAT RIGHT!

ive used the correct jack spot several times without incident. i think it has more to do with the stock hyundai jack...it's very weak and unstable.

Ive never had a problem with the jack stand before..Did you put it in the right spot? Its marked on the car. And the jack has the slit cut in it and everything....It looks like you didnt put it in the right spot..too far up?

Sorry to hear it man that blows. I feel for you. I know it sucks but don't let it ruin the whole tuning experiance for you. I went out and got a 2 ton Hydraulic jack and use that on all my vehicles. I would suggest putting some cash towards that it is worth it in the long run, especially if you are going to continue to do work on the car.

Living in tallahassee im on a first name basis with a local body shop, ima wait till MON and see what they can do for me. the other place wanted 50 bucks and were talking about painting...funkin morons.. I also talked to a local preformance shop that said they'd charge 150 to install the intake and exhaust. Then i ran into a family friend who has hydrolic lifts at his crip and he knows alot about engine building ect. so ima have him check it all out next thursday when it comes in to see if he will help me out so i can get a little experiece working under the car.

And as to this being funny? how about me being under the car when it slid out? or having my arm or something jammed up in there....sorry just dont see the humor...

yeah, i don't find the situation funny at all, i'm sorry to hear that...i usually have bricks or 2X4s underneath the car with the jackstand just as a safe measure :'(

you don't need a manual; if you lay on the ground and look at the frame (under and slightly behind the gill), you can see where theres a notch cut out for the stock jack...I had my car on the jack w/ that location for 2 hours without incident...

03'tiburonz
02-06-2004, 03:58 PM
dont you think the manual should SERIOUSLY make a big indication of that ?

i am pretty sure i saw jackstands at sears for like 20$ I would trust them more than 2x4s,thought 2x4s or bricks are better than nothing.

But if you are going under you car, never ever get under the car with just a jack, hydrolic or screw type. just plain dangerous.

jack stands probably wouldnt have helped in this situation since the car fell almost as soon as you go it up. but it makes for safer work environment.

my 2 cents.

I've used it a few times without incident. It is just really hard to operate.

Ive used the stock jack at least 10 times to install / clean my CAI...its not brain surgery...theres even a little part where the body is cut out to fit the jack perfectly in... i think your retarded to blame hyundai, but thats just me.

Well that is your own fault because there are specifically marked notches under your car where the jack goes.

I looked at my manual, pretty clear, plus there is like lil arrows underneath if I remember correctly.

Its not hyundai its the user, or just because the jack sucks, but we all know that. Hell I can't even get my damn jack out! Just invest a few bucks go to walmart or sears or something pick up a nice jack and some jackstands. Always nice to have a set laying around.

Listen guys the stock jack is a POS anyway...as are all OEM jacks. I always keep a small floor jack in my cars becase those twist ones are ****. And *****ing about what if I was under it fell....well if you really did read the manual it would have told you AT NO POINT DO YOU EVER GET UNDER THE CAR WITHOUT JACK STANDS. If you do go under w/o them and it falls on you...well to me thats just part of the process of natural selection. Sorry but its a no brainer.

Oh and StreetShark...that 20 extra pounds is really gonna screw up your power to weight ratio. If you're that concerned about the extra weight why do you have a bodykit. Because ya know that doesnt make the car any lighter.

2 Ton floor jack and jack stands(2 at the least, 4 is best). These are a must. My jack is still in its little place in the trunk where it belongs. I checked when I bought my car, yep there's the jack, I'll never use you fella

Dude, the same exact thing happened to me. I've had my car jacked up PLENTY of times, then one time, the metal gave out there and pushed out the side of my car a bit. I was pissed, but then I realized that I could actually push the metal right back into position, so it's all good again ;)

I never use those standard jacks - I use a good one, then keep the car propped up with blocks or something sturdier.

you dont even need to jack your car up to put a CAI on anyways. As for the jack you jack your car from the chassis not the floor board or side moldings and sh!t lol

I am sorry to hear about your car and all.. but really this problem should have never occurred..

i have put my car up in the jack numerous times and there is a specifically marked Notch right

underneath the car that runs all the way on the side.. u can probably put it anywhere along it and

your car should be fine.. also to make things better.. always get on ur knees and check and

double check where you are jacking up your car.... sorry to hear it but these problems should be

avoidable :-\

yeah, this should have been avoided by getting my ass under the car an seeing for myself...BUT  its all better! My local body shop that i deal with fixed it for free and it looks GREAT :D thank god! Now just a few days till the intake and MUSSA eva go on :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

why did you jack up the car to put on the CAI. If you would have read up a bit, you would have found by taking out the driver's side headlight you can get to everything you need. I just put one on last night without bringing a jack anywhere near my car.

do you know what my auto tech teacher taught me last year? drive your car diagonally on your driveway and drive your right side onto the brick curb and park and brake everything. i never tried it cuz my neighborhood doesnt have curbs...hahaha...so i dont know if that leaves one with enough room under the car

Um, for the CAI the best way is not to use a jack at all....

For everything else, get a hydraulic floor jack
