Well i just ordered my injen CAI and afterwards thought, "i wonder how they are in the sand?" So basically i live on the beaches of NC where sand covers some roads and was wondering if i could suck it up? I am sure it would be a problem, anyone with experiences? Anyone want to buy an ineake?

well, the cai does have a filter. now, what u will be doin alot is cleaning ur filter. sooo...start looking for some K&N filter cleaner/oil. that will help. and remember, spray the filter with water from the inside out. (^_^)

what u gotta worry about more is water. i know NC. it rains alot. just make sure u have a by pass valve on. if not, u need to worry more about water than sand.

.....why do you think it comes with a filter?

It amazes me how common sense evades some people.

not everyones been studying cars along time there turbo... I asked some pretty stupid questions when I started doing performance mods to my car. I knew jack ****. But I learned by asking. Even if they were stupid questions.

yeah, true. b4 i bought my tib i didn't know jackpoop about cars and performance mods. to me a car is something that will take me from point A to point B. i drove a caprice with a police chaser package(ahhhh,...how i loved and miss my v8 ). my last car had power that no ricer can match around my area, well, except the gasmilage.

anywayz, b4 i even started posting here it took me couple of months b4 i entered my first post after reading through all the threads. i did that coz i was scared/intimidated on getting flamed by the other ppl here that knew what they were talking about(-_-). don't mind Solo zeenon. he knows his shiet and he can be very sarcastic @ times.

my point is, give the guy a break. he is definately new to this. zeenon, my advice, read through the performance section, newbie section and the old forum. everything is there. if u need further help with any questions whatsoever great or small, *stupid* or not, PM ME. I WILL TRY MY BEST TO ANSWER UR QUESTIONS. until then....have fun reading(^_^)

Zeenon...first off your a lucky bastard living in the OBX. And no it shouldnt bea problem unless you take off your air filter. Four yrs ago when I was down there the whole summer driving my stang with a CAI I had no problems. Again I say....Lucky bastard. You suck. LOL

pr1ck....there is no such thing as a stupid question. Just stupid people who ask questions. HAHA

But even water isn't that much of a concern. I was drivin all day yesterday with my car and it rained really bad all day. My car didn't stall shut off or anything, I'm not sayin that it couldn't happen with water getting in the CAI but it does take a lot for it to get in there !!!

yeah...like driving through 6" and more of water, now that will be of concern. i was just concerned of floodings. i don't have a bpv on mine and i have no problems. i'v even seen the forward section of my filter covered in ice/snow and still had no probs(thank God).

i am thinking about calling and switching to an SRI because of the conditions living on the beach. what are the differences in the gains between the cai and sri?

USMCGunRock

prrolly half of what a cai gets or maybe less coz it will be suckin in hot engine air. if u r goin for a sri, u can save money by just taking out all the restrictive intake add-ons u have now(filter box, resonator box) and leave the tube then slap on a k&n filter on the end of that tube. same thing but u r only goin to pay for the cone filter. either way, the sound of the car will be much nicer.

its easy to understand his concern. beach sand has a crazy way of getting into EVERYTHING. its no big deal though. just make sure you get that K&N filter cleaning kit from an auto shop. make sure you follow the directions on the box for cleaning and relubing it, and you'll never have a problem.

Ok, i think i am going to stay with the injen cai that i ordered.

Good idea to stay with the CAI....you actually wind up losing HP and Torque with an SRI. Initially it has slightly lower gain than a CAI. But once the engine reached operating temp and things start to heat up under the hood you are done. The air getting sucked in is so hot you actually wind up losing 2-3hp and about 5 ft/lbs of torque versus stock. So an SRI is NEVER a good idea!!

K&N Air panel replacement filter. Part#33-2201. Go to Kragen, or autozone and if they don't have it in stock, order it. It's about 55 bucks at my place. You can get it online for about 34 bucks. You only have to clean it every 50,000 miles. (saying you live in good conditions) Small peformance gains also.

K&N makes a filter cover that goes over the filter. You might want to look into something like that, which would be easier to take off and shake out, rather than clean the whole filter. Its almost like a very fine cloth material, and I dont think is very expensive
