the ECU is basically a chip...which adjust to a lot of environmental variables...still it can be modified to gain power and torque.

true, it can be modified using the diagnostics interface or you can replace it completely. Modifying is better, because you can adapt all settings perfectly to your mods and to the fuel used. Either way, you pay very much...

unfortunately only replacing is possible:
http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1988
or using a seperate box inbetween (piggy back)
a tuner in my area would charge €390 incl. the installation and he said generally for all NA gasoline engines a HP and torque increase of 10% can be expected...but then I would have to use ROZ 95, 98 or 100 fuel...so I think I wont do it.

well I can't confirm that... already looked around for a few companies doing chiptuning, all saying that it IS reprogrammable... hyundai itself had a recall in a few states to reprogram the ecu. I think I can get 17-20hp out of my V6 with 98oct fuel, which I'm using anyway.

well hopefully you are right but read this from the pdf attached:
Fitting Details
Your car uses an ECU which features an embedded processor rather than a
normal chip or EPROM which means that your car does not use a chip that
can be modified. The Powerchip upgrade for your car is an additional
computer which alters the ignition timing of the vehicle in the same way as a
normal chip style upgrade. Installation takes about 1 hour and can be
performed by a Powerchip Authorised Fitter. We have authorized fitters in
most areas. Please enquire at the time of order for your nearest fitting
station.

here is the answer from a chiptuning company:
Tuning über OBDII ist bei diesem Fahrzeug leider nicht möglich,
aber wir löten immer einen Sockel ein, so dass man ohne weiters auf den Origianalchip umrüsten kann.
auf Super besser wäre natürlich Super+ sollte man auf jeden Fall umsteigen.
