: Modification Problems Help!!!
mystic tiburon 01-25-2004, 04:38 PM I need help with this. I have exhaust and a AEM CAI on my gt 2003 tib. I constantly get a check engine light, and the car bucks down the road around 3-4,000rpms. I found that the brake booster line is cut from the aftermarket CAI and I have the part on the way to fix that, but will that cause all of those problems? Or is there something else that could be causing problems?please help >:(
StreetShark 01-25-2004, 04:40 PM the CEL is from the intake..my guess.
mystic tiburon 01-25-2004, 04:43 PM CEL?im sorry im not car stupid but not a master mind either...please explain if you can for me,im sorry im dumb
Carb0n03 01-25-2004, 04:48 PM CEL = Check Engine Light
mystic tiburon 01-25-2004, 04:59 PM ok thank you.i could see something like that, but its not just the check engine light coming on,i can deal with that.its the bucking down the street,i start to take off and it jumps and jumps around 4,000rpm,what could that possibly be?
Tibmeister 01-25-2004, 05:00 PM First, take the car to your dealer and make sure the Check Engine Light isn't something severe. I doubt the intake and exhaust is causing the bucking, so ask the dealer to look at it for you and see what code it's pulling. I've never heard of a car bucking due to an intake and exhaust.
Second, if the CEL code was nothing major, you can try cleaning your MAF sensor. Be careful when you do it. Most people who did this ended up clearing the Check Engine Light after it was cleaned.
I think they used some alchohal and a q-tip, but be VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL when you do this. Just sort of dab at it. After that, let it dry and then start the car back up after you reset the ECU. let us know what happens.
--EDIT--
If your dealer is closed today, try cleaning the MAF sensor and reseting the ECU. If it doesn't reset the code and the bucking is still there, take the car to the dealer to see what could be causing the bucking down... that is strange...
Solo2Tib 01-25-2004, 05:08 PM My guess is you screwed something up while installing it.
StreetShark 01-25-2004, 05:09 PM HAHAHAA Solo is back!
mystic tiburon 01-25-2004, 05:16 PM I did take it to the dealler and it pulled codes for o2 sensors and MAF sensor.Could the brake booster hose being cut cause the bucking? But the dealer wont touch the car due to the modifications.I have a 2000 tib and I have installed turbo, headers, exhaust, intake and so on.this was a easy job for the 2003tib gt,so i doubt it was something i installed,i even checked it out again.
I will clean the maf and see what happens.you reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery ground and holding the brake for a minute or so,right?
tylerdurden87111 01-25-2004, 05:25 PM That is def your intake, make sure all your connections are tight, and that your Mass Air Flow sensor is connected tight too.
VRESpeedFreak 01-25-2004, 05:25 PM The CEL will not be caused by the brake booster, but the "bucking" can and will be caused by the O2/MAF failures.
Clena the MAF, and make sure there is some slack in the MAF harness. If it is anywhere near tight, when the engine rocks back and forth, it will cause additional strain on the wires.
If the problem persists, you may have to replace the faulty O2 sensor as well.
StreetShark 01-25-2004, 05:27 PM I know the bucking all too well. It scaed the hell outta me when i first put on the intake. Check it, clean it, reset the ECU!
mystic tiburon 01-25-2004, 05:32 PM Excellent this was the help i was looking for.Thank you every one for your input.I will try all that was addressed and see what happens.Thank you again everyone
Ryloth 01-25-2004, 08:12 PM When i had a bucking, it happened when I let off the gas and again when i hit the gas. It ended up being that my cold air filter fell off my cai.
Tibmeister 01-25-2004, 08:57 PM huh... weird... I've had my CAI loose before and I never got bucking... weird indeed
Keith03GT 01-26-2004, 12:39 PM I have a CAI and I've never had issues live you. Have you figured out what the problem was...CAI??
SMOKIN 01-26-2004, 12:47 PM My guess would be a leak in one of the sylicone sleeves.
The motor moves quite a bit and what seems to be secure when the car is stationary could be losing seal under acceleration!
Hope this gets fixed man.

You have a Turbo and headers on your V6? that may be the problem
JackMcNASTY 01-26-2004, 01:58 PM Just make sure teh cai is installed tight and clean teh MAF.
Teh brake booster hose may be causing the problem with teh bucking for sure.
detroitibby 01-26-2004, 02:06 PM had exactly same problem. the booster line or whatever u called it. its cut and all u need to do is cut the tip of in and place it back. and what cousing it. is ur cai is tightned too tight make sure it is loose little bit.
mystic tiburon 01-27-2004, 05:06 PM just as a update,i did replace the brake booster hose.and reset the ecu and it is running like a champ.i do still need to cut the tubing alittle bit,but its to fu**ing cold outside right now.but i will do it before i go driving like normal.thanks for the help everyone
mystic tiburon 01-31-2004, 11:43 AM yea i fixed it. I never had a problem with my cai until about 3k miles of use. then the brake booster line cut. well instead of modifying the brake booster and create more problems i just ripped it out and went with injen intake. it doesnt sound as beasty but does the same power about. PLus i hadnt noticed when i installed my intake but the cut metal on the frame had a small sharp edge which was cutting into the intake, and made a crack along the side. something so simple, yet such a pain in the ass.
