: Cold Air Intake Question
Toby Tib 01-26-2004, 08:18 PM I'm thinking of getting a cold air intake for my tib. I have a few questions and maybe you guys can help me out. I was looking on ebay and found an AEM CAI for around $175 and an Injen CAI for around $200. I also saw some other brand going for as low as $35 such as this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38634&item=2455524159
Does anyone know the differance between these? Is one as good as the next? If I put a CAI on my car will it void the warranty? If someone knows of a better price other than ebay let me know. Thanks, Toby Tib
GOFISCH 01-26-2004, 08:29 PM Those are good prices for the AEM and Injen, make sure they are for the Tib you have. The other I don't know anything about. I have a AEM and love it, heard the same thing about the Injen from guys on here. It will not void your warranty. There is a post in the General Discussion about Warranty Laws. The Brand Name CAI are all about the same.
gingii 01-26-2004, 10:38 PM There was a thread a week ago in the old "new" forum before it was accidentally deleted called "the other eBay intake", which was a continuation of a thread from the old "old" forum (if any of this makes any sense...... anyway.....).
I bought this intake from an eBay auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38634&item=2456660114
This was on a recommendation from another NT.com member who had also gotten it and gave it a thumb's up.
I personally think it was a good piece of equipment, definitely a bargain. The filter that came with it was replaced a few days later by a K&N.
Several others here on NT.com have purchased the same auction and had nothing but good stuff to say.
Bottom line, be careful on eBay. I'm pretty sure this statement is akin to beating a dead horse, but the same goes with comments about SharkRacing, Weapon-R, etc etc.

lol, if we have to do this again, you may not even be able to think strait....
make sure you read those warranty laws, it says if the new part caused the failure its not covered. so if say your MAF sensor broke, it probably wont be covered, and anything else the dealership decides the air-intake could have broken.
but a lot of people on that have been turned down at one dealership have had the repairs covered at another dealership, so i guess it depends on the dealer.
I am probably going to get an Injen, not to downplay the other intakes. AEM and KORE had problems posted about causing brake failure by rubbing in some vacuum lines, they posted a fix, but i woudl rather not worry about it. Also you dont have to expand the intake hole into the wheel well quite as much i hear.
as for prices. www.adventon.com is the best i have seen for Injen and AEM, shipping is a little steep, but if you buy more than one item it brings it down a lot. for example an injen intake and eibach prokits 430 shipped i think. at least when i priced it last month thats what i got.
Magister 01-26-2004, 11:10 PM yeah I went through Adventon when I bought my CAI...VERY good prices, also I think with the warrenty thing, it won't void it as long as the mods are before the MAF and after the Cat...don't quote me on that though
Tiburon1575 01-26-2004, 11:12 PM Replacing the stock airbox with a CAI will only void the warranty of the air box. Unless of course your CAI causes damage somewhere else on engine, but that is very highly unlikely. Those prices are very good. As far as which is best I would go with the AEM or the Injen. They are the two best in my opinion. I dynoed a gain of 16.2 WHP at 4720 RPM in 4th gear with the AEM on my V-6. I didn't have any other mods at the time that I dynoed the AEM. Good luck.
Toby Tib 01-26-2004, 11:19 PM Thanks for the info, it has helped me alot. Think I'm gonna go with the AEM. I've alway's heard you get what you pay for and I'm sure it is true in this case.
Red2.0Tib 01-26-2004, 11:25 PM Adventon's prices went way up, I believe that they were at $225 for the Injen. Contact r100s if you want the Injen, he is the man.
r100s 01-27-2004, 11:52 PM $199 included shipping to US 48 states....
I have both Balck and polished for V6 and only black for I4.
PM me if anyone interested..... I ahve them in stock, ready to ship out... ;)
SlightlyModified 01-28-2004, 01:49 AM I bought one of the "other" ebay intakes, and personally think it was a great buy for the small amount of money I paid for it. It ended up being around $62 shipped to my door, and when i opened the box I was surprised about how nice it all looked. (except that little blue filter they send you.) Other than that, a K&N filter is going in, and I'm sure everything will be great. I'd definately reccomend it to anyone.
Toby Tib 01-28-2004, 06:35 AM Thanks Slightly, actually purchased the one on ebay last night. I looked through the forum and found there were a few people that had purchased the one one ebay and have been very happy with it. I think mine was around $62 bucks also and once I get it I will probably upgrade the filter. Thanks r100 also, have to say that is a very good price for the Ingen CAI. I ordered a set of grounding wires also, don't know if they will do any good but liked the looks of them and if they improve the ideal that would be great too. I have noticed during cold weather that I can hear the alternator hum slightly. Does anyone have this problem? I'm thinking the grounding wires may help this. Also if anyone has a DIY on grounding wires could you point me in that direction. Have to say this forum is the **it!
