: Auto Torque Converter Review
GOFISCH 01-25-2004, 10:57 AM Ok, I've driven my car around some now with the new High Stall Lock up Torque Converter. Stall limit is 2800rpm. When I first drove it off the lot. I thought hmmm, nothing there. I have to remember this upgrade is not given me HP its given me the ability to put to the ground the HP I already have. So I drove home taking it easy. The shifts were a bit smoother, and my acceleration was better. Then that night I entered a freeway on- ramp and went around a truck that was going slow. I didn't really go around I FLEW around him. Sweet. The torque is available as soon as the car downshifts. When I'm in drive and pop over to shiftronic, down shift to 2nd and that baby goes. Also my burnouts are longer. (I don't do that much, tires are expensive). I also took .2sec off my 0-60mph times. Very cool.
The whole thing just seems smoother. The acceleration is so subtle suddenly I'm going 60mph on a 45mph and I think man that was fast. I'm getting up there so much sooner than I used to.
Hogslice 01-25-2004, 12:00 PM That is Awesome

ChosunTiburon 01-31-2004, 11:52 PM Crap, forgot to post this. Can someone explain to me the stall limits and the lock thingies on the torque converters?
GOFISCH 02-01-2004, 09:52 AM www.levelten.com
neotibb 02-18-2004, 03:50 AM where did you get your torque converter form?
ron169 02-18-2004, 03:53 AM www.levelten.com (http://www.levelten.com/)
he got it there
Verius 02-18-2004, 11:23 AM was just looking at the site and wanted to know what the difference is in the stages listed
http://www.levelten.com/store/import/packages/hyundai.htm
Airjam21 02-18-2004, 12:39 PM How much was it for the installation?
TiburonPowa 02-18-2004, 01:02 PM what is the difference in the stages cause there is one two and three and which one should we get???? thanks
Johnabis 02-18-2004, 02:14 PM anothing thing, what about quarter mile time? did it really get you .5 to 1 sec off quarter mile as levelten claims?
Red2.0Tib 02-18-2004, 03:38 PM Hey GOFISCH, did you get the PTS version for shifttronic trannies??? ALso what'd you pay to have it installed??
Fray Adjacent 02-18-2004, 04:54 PM That sounds like the feeling I got when I went from a 90hp car to my Tiburon.
I'd get on the freeway, and I'm going 80, and the car just wants to go FASTER....
I love my Tiburon
GOFISCH 02-18-2004, 05:18 PM The different stages are for different stall limits. They set the stall limit according to your mods. Most likely it will be 2800rpm. I haven't driven a 1/4mile, but it did take 2/10ths off my 0-60mph times.:2_biggrin It cost me $310 for install at my dealer. I could have had it done for less, but I downloaded the removal instructions from the Hyundai webtech site and decided to let the dealer do it. Did I miss anything.:2_lol:
Magister 02-18-2004, 05:24 PM can someone link me to a DIY before I actually consider buying one, I like doing mods myself
GOFISCH 02-18-2004, 05:27 PM http://www.hmaservice.com/webtech/ Look it up on there.
Im very interested, just want to know, which is best for an automatic with a supercharger, and which stage is preferred?
Dopey 02-18-2004, 06:25 PM Well, I've never changed a tranny in a car that has the shift-tronic, but if there is nothing you have to do thats special for that, it should be pretty simple.
Maybe reading the instructions off of webtech sound like a big deal, changing an auto tranny is really quite simple. My first time changing an auto tranny was on a '96 Ford Escort wagon and only took me about 6hrs.
If you're doing it yourself, just don't forget to put some tranny fluid in the TC before you put it back in. Also go ahead and change the tranny filter too.

Red2.0Tib 02-19-2004, 01:18 AM Hmmm guess I better wait until summer, thinking about Gude's Turbo kit.
Biskit 02-19-2004, 01:56 AM once again, im the dumbass that doesn't know wtf is going on...i read the explination of torque converters on the level10 site...and understand it. what i dont understand is...are these for auto tansmissions only?
Biskit 02-19-2004, 01:57 AM That sounds like the feeling I got when I went from a 90hp car to my Tiburon.
I'd get on the freeway, and I'm going 80, and the car just wants to go FASTER....
I love my Tiburon
and i know what you mean about this man...my last car was a '96 accent...and honestly, i thought at that time that i did, in fact, own a fast car. lol peace
:2_redface
ChosunTiburon 02-19-2004, 01:57 AM Hey can someone give me the specific configurations that were on the TQ on the first group buy? The stall rate and stuff, etc.....
GOFISCH 02-28-2004, 08:57 AM once again, im the dumbass that doesn't know wtf is going on...i read the explination of torque converters on the level10 site...and understand it. what i dont understand is...are these for auto tansmissions only?
Yes
The stall rate is set to match your mods, most likely 2800rpm. It will also lower the rpm's at which peak torque kicks in, about 3600-4000rpm's.
BuMHeD 02-28-2004, 03:22 PM Hrmm... I wonder if I'm still welcome to buy this at the GB price... hehe... If I recall... last time I checked, just putting my name in the hat back in the old forums locked in my GB price *grin*... but if not, oh well... not like I have the money yet anyway... GOFISHES... you really need to hit the track and dispel any doubts or rumors... that would help me raise money faster... that's for sure ;)

GOFISCH 02-28-2004, 06:12 PM In a few weeks my brother, in a few weeks. I'm looking forward to the track. I've never done it before.
Rblover69 03-01-2004, 09:10 AM well is there gonna be another groupbuy on this please inform 400 is better than 500
GOFISCH 03-01-2004, 09:35 AM well is there gonna be another groupbuy on this please inform 400 is better than 500
Start one. Just call Level Ten and tell them you want to do it. No problem.
DS'sTibby 05-02-2004, 09:14 PM So I would have to pull out my Torque Converter, send it to Level10 and then they would do the Mod and send it back, and then I put it back in? How long did that take?
GOFISCH 05-02-2004, 09:23 PM It only takes them a day to do it, if it scheduled, maybe two. I think mine took two days. Unless you know what you are doing I wouldn't do it myself.
arctic shark 05-08-2004, 09:57 PM with added HP and torque comes added stress on the auto trans. Is there anything I can do to ensure more life out of my tranny.

Johnabis 05-09-2004, 02:40 PM It still suprises me how no one with a modified torque converter has gone to the track yet. :3_confuse I mean ive been wanted to know if it really takes of .5 to 1 sec off the quarter mile time like level 10 advertises
Sktr559 05-10-2004, 09:44 AM yea that would be a useful piece of info so i can know if i should buy one too
Sktr559 05-10-2004, 09:44 AM oh and do u get gains out of the torque coverter even if your car is stock?
"FIRE" 09-14-2004, 10:25 PM so has anyone with this been to the track or dyno?
thajaymann 09-14-2004, 10:33 PM probably not...the thing is...that ppl have other mods along with the TC...so it wont be that accurate...we need a magazine to test it....eveyone email PAS mag or any other mag where they test parts lol.
Dopey 09-14-2004, 10:47 PM Yes

Well, 3000rpms-4000rpms is where peak torque is on the Tib stock, so I don't think it lowered it any. I have headers now and my peak torque starts at like 3500rpms.
If it lowers the rpm where peak torque is made, it should be at like 2500 (like a VW) and not 3600-4000.
Unless you meant to type HP and not torque, I don't think that is right.
