Resistors for LED signals

If LED turn signals are in use, a resistor must be placed in parallel with each LED flasher circuit for proper turn signal operation. If only the front turn signals, or only the back turn signals, have been replaced with LEDs, each LED flasher circuit must have a 6 ohm resistor in parallel with it. If all four turn signals have been replaced with LEDs, each LED flasher circuit must have a 3 ohm resistor in parallel with it.

See also: DIY for LED turn signals

Resistors for LED brake lights

If LED brake lights are in use, a resistor must be placed in parallel with each LED bulb for proper operation of the cruise control. Each LED brake light circuit must have a 6 or 7 ohm, 60 watt resistor in parallel with it.

Caveat

I do not know if this is all correct. I searched all over for it, but I found conflicting information, which is one of the reasons I thought that creating this guide would be helpful. It is my intention to update this with corrections and additions.

If you know of an error or omission, please post a correction.

Re: light bulb guide

Added information about LED lights and resistors. I do not know if the ohm and watt information on the brake lights is accurate. I had a frustrating time trying to find any information on that. A 60W resistor for that purpose seems like overkill to me, frankly.

Re: light bulb guide

I am pretty sure the "60 watt" specified by the brake light DIY is incorrect. 60 watts is overkill. Besides, 7 ohm resistors with nice built-in heatsinks are not as easy to find as 6 ohm 50 watt resistors. I will be installing a bunch of LEDs soon, and I will test various resistors to see how they operate.

Added a change for the 07/08 low beams. I have an 07 and bought new assy's with the white corner and the lows are H7 now instead of H11. I also read somewhere else that the 08 did change to H7 for the high and low instead of only the high being H7

Think you have the two mixed up bud. My '08 GS takes H11 on lows and H7 for highs. This is also stated on Silvania's Lamb Replacement Guide. I copy and pasted the text from their guide below.

2008 HYUNDAI Tiburon

Low beam headlamp
H11
H11SU SilverStar Ultra: The brightest and whitest light. Up to 50% brighter, up to 40% more downroad visibility and up to 50% more sideroad visibility.
H11ST SilverStar: The brighter and whiter light. Up to 35% brighter, up to 30% more downroad visibility and up to 35% more sideroad visibility.
H11XV XtraVision: The brighter light for upgraded performance. Up to 30% brighter light and up to 25% more downroad visibility.

High beam headlamp
H7
H7SU SilverStar Ultra: The brightest and whitest light. Up to 50% brighter, up to 40% more downroad visibility and up to 50% more sideroad visibility.
H7ST SilverStar: The brighter and whiter light. Up to 35% brighter, up to 30% more downroad visibility and up to 35% more sideroad visibility.
H7EB EcoBright - Your Environmental Choice. Save Energy - Save Money. Up to 25% brighter light. CO2 reduced 9 to 21%. Gas savings $2 to $19.
H7XV XtraVision: The brighter light for upgraded performance. Up to 30% brighter light and up to 25% more downroad visibility.
H7CB Cool Blue: The whiter light for style. Up to 25% brighter light and up to 25% more downroad visibility.

[Edit]

I can now say being 100% positive after putting in my HID kits that the lows are definitely H11 bulbs and highs are H7.

Re: light bulb guide

By the way, I installed LEDs for the rear side marker on my 2033 Tiburon, and it caused problems with my tail lights. The tail lights flickered. I went back to conventional incandescent bulbs, and the tail lights work correctly again.

So don't bother putting LEDs in the rear side markers on a 2003 Tiburon.

The Diode Dynamics dual-color LED turn signals I installed up front (with resistors) are still working like a champ.

Re: light bulb guide

I know this is old by now, but my 07 Tib GT has H7 low beams and H11 high beams, not H11 lows. I think each model might be different in 07/08, in case anyone wants to look into it?

Everything is custom. Not even sure it's a Tiburon anymore.
