Thumbs up Fun With Plasti Dip! - What are YOUR experiences?

We've ALL wondered how something on our cars would look painted a different color...right? JGresch and his front bumper...or Njtricker609 and his "Two-tone spoiler" ordeal just to name a couple...could've benefited from this! Haha

Plasti Dip is a product originally designed for tool applications...for better/replacement non-slip grip (handles). Since then, though, they've upgraded the applications to be a bit more universal (auto, home/garden, RV/marine, power sports). They've also made it in a variety of colors: Black, blue, red, yellow, white, and CLEAR COAT...all the same colors as our cars!!

The main benefit of Plasti Dip is the fact that it's "reversible"...if you change your mind, you can simply peel it off with no damage! In my application, if I were to ever sell my car, I could simply peel off the Plasti Dip and re-install the original grill AKA return to stock (RTS).

Plasti Dip can be found at your nearest hardware store such as Lowe's, The Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc.

Check out their link here: http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip

Here's a good NT link on Plasti Dip as well: Plastidip

Lets see and hear about YOUR applications! I'll start:

My problem was that, after installing my custom carbon fiber grill, the original car color was showing:

Tape off and let the Plasti Dip begin!:

3 coats later:

Finished product...SO much better!:

What do YOU have!?!?

The picture was taken RIGHT after I sprayed it...it flattens out really nicely after about 30 mins.

Re: Fun With Plasti Dip! - What are YOUR experiences?

When I had the tib I plastidipped the mud flaps to change them from that sort of off-gray to a darker shade that was closer to the black of the tib. That's about it; it's a good product though.

Re: Fun With Plasti Dip! - What are YOUR experiences?

My experience with this stuff is it doesn't last long. After a few months it began peeling and looked like sh1t. I used it on the rock sliders on my jeep. If I used black spray paint it would have looked way better and last. But it does peel off easily and leaves no residue or anything behind.

Shadow Blue - or you could have bought a small piece of black vinyl and applied it with less work and for about $1 versus all of this - yes?

I actually think this way was easier...for me anyway. It only took 10 mins.

Well from whats said above it dont last too long - and vinyl is pretty much weather and UV proof. Just seems that a sticker type application would have been easier - whatev

Yea and be carefull when you take any tape off that you used because where you just painted with it can peel off with the tape.

If that makes sense...

Re: Fun With Plasti Dip! - What are YOUR experiences?

So if I want to see how would be my hood with a black strip (like tuscani006' signature) and a black roof I can use that without risk?

But even if you can remove it, I'm not sure if its worth to try it...

I completely understand what you're saying...and it's a very good suggestion Mine looks exactly as it did when I first completed the mod. Although, the area I Plasti Dip'd isn't susceptible to rock damaged and/or a lot of light.

If that makes sense...
For this, remove the tape directly after your last coat while it's still soft (shiny) like pictured above.

so basically, its applied as paint, but then it dries and almost in a sense rubberizes? so you can just peel it off in the end if you dont like it?

EXACTLY!

If you're applying it to something that is susceptible to rock damage, I would use the new clear coat they made available.

If you end up using it, update the thread with your experience!

If anyone has used Plasti Dip, definitely post pics or give commentary on your experiences so the community has insight. Has anyone used the clear coat?

Or just use the blue painters tape. It's made so it does not adhere to any surface too strongly.
