Old Krylon Fusion Plastic paint - engine cover- clearcoat? 11-25-2009 , 05:03 PM

Heya,

Just started painting my engine cover, I'm using Krylon Fusion plastic paint for the ribs, based on many of your recommendations, and I was wondering if I should clear-coat it? It's a high-gloss black color, I don't want to mess up the finish if it's not meant to be clearcoated. Just want it as shiny as possible. Who has used this paint and did you clearcoat? It says nothing about it on the can.

I have regular Duplicolor clearcoat and Duplicolor High-Heat Engine clearcoat leftover from previous projects, which should I use? I was thinking the high-heat.

Thanks

I'm def using the krylon for the ribs, high-heat wont stick with how smooth I sanded them, trust me, I tried already. Yours looks good though. I used silver high-heat for main black part of the cover.

So google gave about 50/50 mixed results, "clear-coat it or it scratches real bad"...."clearcoat f*cked mine up and left it rough!"... etc. etc. lol

I know more of you have used this krylon paint for plastic engine covers, I bought it based on searching on here. Anyone else try clearcoating it?
