Old Engine Problems Relating To Low Oil 07-31-2010 , 01:10 AM

Alright, today i left my car to get it's oil changed when i was in the city (about 1.5 hours) from my house, and he said i was good to take it home and do it myself. So about an hour into the drive home my oil light flickered for just a second and the car started making a ticking noise. It isn't a clunking noise coming from the bottom, but a light rapid ticking noise between 1100 to 2000 rpms. When we added more oil, we put in about 3 liters, so it was very very very low. Tomorrow i'm gonna rip it down and see wtf is wrong with it, but as of right now, i have a few questions.

Does the car have hydraulic valve springs? When i added oil the noise didn't go away, but got alot better. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could possibly be wrong? Thanks ahead of time. Tib is an 04 i4 with a cold air.
