Old FS: Gtech RR Pro Performance meter 04-21-2009 , 06:05 PM

GTECH PRO RR

I ordered this new for $250, and it is VERY accurate. Will take $200 shipped or best offer I only used it twice, unfortunately I just do not have time to use it so i am selling it.

The Gtech Pro RR has some AMAZING features! For now this will serve as a feature review of the unit.

First off, the software:

P.A.S.S.

Gtech PC Analysis System Software (PASS)
This is the main page pertaining to PASS, the PC software for the Gtech Pro Competition.
PASS allows you to analyze your runs in even more depth than possible on the Gtech, due to the increased processing power and screen resolution of a PC. (PASS analyzes the data from the Gtech, i.e. it does not have access to any more information than the Gtech, just more processing resources.)
With PASS 2.0, you can analyze, compare and share dragstrip runs and track sessions from road racing and autocross sessions.

Gtech Pro PASS PC Software -- Dyno plot from a drag strip run

Gtech Pro PASS PC Software -- Road Racing Analysis

What is the latest version of PASS?
  • The latest version of PASS is v2.0. This version works with all versions of the Competition and RR models.
Which version of PASS do I have?
  • When you run PASS, there is a "Help" pulldown menu. If you select "About", a splash screen will appear and the PASS version is shown in the lower left corner.
  • Gtech Pro Competition units shipped with PASS v1.1.1.
  • Gtech Pro RR units shipped with PASS v2.0.
  • Gtech Pro SS units cannot upload data and do not ship with any version of PASS.
Which version of PASS should I use?
  • If you have a Gtech Pro Competition:
    • The newest version of PASS v2.0. PASS v2.0 will work with any version of firmware on the Gtech Pro Competition. We strongly recommend that all Gtech Pro Competition owners download, install and use PASS v2.0.
    • If you have upgraded your Gtech Pro Competition to the RR/4.0 firmware, you must use version 2.0 of PASS to analyze your runs.
    • If your Competition has firmware version 3.0 or earlier, you can use PASS v1.1.1, but you will be missing out on the latest features and enhancements in the latest Gtech firmware (version RR/4.0) and the latest version of PASS, v2.0.
  • If you have a Gtech Pro RR:
    • Your product was shipped with PASS version 2.0, and that is the version you should use with the RR.
  • If you have a Gtech Pro SS:
    • The Gtech Pro SS cannot upload runs to a PC, so you cannot use PASS with your product.
(Please note before installing or running PASS: your Windows screen resolution must be set to at least 1024x768 or greater, otherwise you will experience problems with the PASS window filling your entire display.)
I am a drag racer - what features of PASS would be interesting to me?
Some of the dragstrip features of PASS are:
  • compare & overlay up to 4 runs at once
  • display of the following stats (shown for U.S. mode - metric equivalents are also viewable):
    • reaction time (if applicable)
    • time to complete rollout distance
    • 1/8 & 1/4 mile trap speed and E.T.
    • 60 / 330 / 1000 ft times
    • 0-60 MPH time
  • Acceleration stats:
    • 0-30 MPH, 0-40 MPH, .... 0-130 MPH
    • 30-50 MPH, 40-60 MPH, 50-70 MPH, 60-80 MPH
    • 0-60-0 and 0-100-0 timings
  • graph of:
    • Horsepower & Torque vs RPM and Horsepower vs Time
    • RPMs vs Time
    • Gs (Acceleration), Speed and Distance vs Time
    • Braking distance
  • zoom in/out on each graph
  • switch between metric and U.S./Imperial views
  • save run data in plain-text format for use in other applications
  • print graphs and export graphs in JPEG format
I am a road racer / autocrosser - what features of PASS would be interesting to me?
Some of the track features of PASS are:
  • carve up a track session into a set of laps for lap-by-lap comparison
  • compare lap times and G-force/RPM measurements to find where you "pushed the envelope"
  • real-time playback of race data, showing G force and RPM changes as they happened
  • rewind, pause and fast forward with variable speed during session playback
  • zoom in/out on each graph
  • G-G circle plot helps you understand how consistently and aggressively you are driving
  • save run data in plain-text format for use in other applications
  • print graphs and export graphs in JPEG format
  • on-screen "hints" indicate the function of buttons and windows within the application

All of the features of the SS model plus:

Road Racing/Autocross
PASS Software
Multiple Vehicle Support
2hr data-acquisition
PC Download Cable
AC Adapter
Permanent Mount
PASS - Performance Analysis System Software. It can be used for replaying and comparing 1/4 mile runs or for replaying Road Race/Autocross sessions. It even replays engine sound based on recorded RPMs.
$299.99

RR model comes with the Permanent Mount which allows you to permanently mount the G-TECH/Pro anywhere in your car. The unit itself can still be taken out of its cradle.
RR model comes with the AC Adapter so you can power the unit while you are downloading the runs/sessions to your PC.
RR model comes with the PC Download Cable that is used to quickly hook-up to your PC and download all your runs and sessions.
RR model comes with 2 Megs of FLASH. This is enough to store over two hours of Road Racing/Autocross sessions (10 Hz recording.) That's more than full-blown data-acquisition systems costing thousands!

PASS is included! Learn more...

Yes I have had it at the track several times and it is accurate. I have not had time to fool with the dyno features though, there are like 6 cops for every person where I live so they are up your @ss everywhere you go and I haven't found anywhere to test it without getting pulled over.

Here is a test run I made on my old car:

how is this installed? nearly plug and play or do i have to have sensors running to the engine bay? or is it tapping into some wires in the, let's say, ECU?
thanks.

Just plug it in your cig lighter and then calibrate it. It is easy to do and takes about 2 minutes. It uses accelerometors to calculate everything.

For example, the dyno posted in this thread was of my car after I added 1.5psi. Before the 1.5psi and meth I dyno'd at 285whp so I would be willing to bet the 306whp was very close to what i was making after the boost increase and meth was added.

I took it to the track and it was within .1 to .2 seconds of my actual time on all runs.

hhmmm... this thing must be super precise in its construction if all this is done with some base parameters and a highly sensitive accelerometer.
i'll PM you once I get back home from class.

Videos of it are in post 2: http://www.newtiburon.com/forums/sho...14&postcount=2

It can keep up to 4 cars in memory and up to 2 hours of logging. The software is really nice and keeps track of your data too. Great for seeing how your mods affect your performance compared to your stock times, etc.
