Old Stick shift question 09-16-2012 , 05:13 AM

im fairly new to stick shift and i have a question, i have an 03 gt 6 speed and i was wondering is there a certain time when you're not supposed to put your foot in the clutch....i do this in every stick i drive...when going slow and shifting the clutch feels fine but when going fast and shifting the clutch almost has a vibration to it...i dont know if im shifting too late and over revving or if im putting my foot in the clutch too slow...can someone explain this? hope i explained right so you guys can help me understand.

not sure what ur asking but after u step on the clutch, then shift gears, you should not be on the clutch at all......

so are u driving with both gas pedal and left foot on the clutch?? you dont want to do that

When im at standstill traffic I kind of leave my foot on the clutch because we're pretty much only going 5-10 mph ... How bad s this on my clutch? It's pretty much unavoidable though ... i just got my new spec stage 2+ .....Still in the break in period..... traveled on like 60 mile trips already (in the guard going to my base)... Just dont want to detroy my ish lol... kind of like thatguyray...newbie to stick..... Good at riding it just wanna know the unwritten rules i guess lol......

The clutch can be pressed whenever as it really just pops it into neutral. When you're going slow, like in traffic, you can keep the clutch down if you feel the rpm is going to low like the car will stall. Thats fine.

As for the OP, when you're shifting at high rpms, I've never had the vibration feel so perhaps you're keeping the clutch depressed too long? If i shift at high rpms, I'm in and out of the clutch pretty quickly.

i think you're right jazzville...just have to get used to the car, also....is there a way to adjust where my clutch engages? it comes almost all the way up before it engages

i bought the car and i was told that the clutch was bad because it was acting up after a few hours, i took it back and they told me the clutch was fine and that they replaced the slave cylinder, so if there is an aftermarket slave cylinder i dont need to do the mod right?

Almost definitely. Aftermarket slave cylinders are just meant to be equivalent to but cheaper than OEM.

You don't want to "ride" the clutch. Like have it half pressed down, that's bad cuz you are slipping it. You want to either have it pressed down all the way or not pressed at all. I see a lot of people holding their foot on the clutch while they drive to rest their foot and that will burn out your clutch very fast. That's what the dead pedal is for. You want to be in the "in between (having the clutch half way down to all the way down)" as little as possible.
