Old DIY: Gill Lights by Mines Better 01-25-2004 , 08:42 AM

D.I.Y. for the Gill Lights

Tools:
·10mm socket.
·Philips head screwdriver.
·Flat head screwdriver.
·Needle nose pliers.
·A hot glue gun.
·Many glue sticks.
·Soldering gun or some type of exactor knife or something.

1. Jack up the car.

2. Take off the wheel.

3. Take off the wheel well lining.

4. Take out the black foam piece that is in there that is behind the gill.

5. Carefully take out gill by unclipping the 6 clips. Unclip with caution, so the clips don’t break.

6. When the gill is fully off, unscrew the green clips off. This just makes things simpler for later.

7. Use a soldering gun to slightly melt the black spots where the piece in the gill slot is covering the holes

Then take off those black pieces

8. Place ones of the gill lights on over its hole. (Small ones in back opening towards the back of the car, and the big ones in the front openings towards the front of the car.)

9. Glue the side that is leaning on the gill first. Do it in little intervals and let those spots dry, so you can make sure the gill light is straight. Gluing takes lots of time and patience

10. Repeat step 8 and 9 with the gill in the other opening

11. Screw the green clips back onto the gill.

12. Now drill holes big enough for the wires to fit on the wall behind where the gill goes. Run the wire through the hole shown below

13. Then snap the gill back in on the car, making sure to pull the wire through the hole till it wont go anymore.

14. Behind where the rubber was, behind the fender, there is a hole, with a rubber piece in it. Take that rubber piece out. Then take off the door sills on that side of the car, and take off the kick panel to get to that hole. Run the wire in through there.

15. Place the rubber piece back in, the black foam piece back in, put the wheel well fender back on, and put the tire back on.

16. Then tighten the screws that hole on the wheel, and lower the jack.

17. Repeat steps 1-16.

18. Now wire it all in, and your done.

Thanks to Mines Better for this clear and concise DIY!

Great DIY - i got 2 questions though:

How much time does this mod take about?
How hard is it to wire? (for blinkers or to a switch, or both)

from what i remember, u dont need any resistors or fuses...

but i did this about 2 years ago, so its kinda hard to remember.

but i think u just need to connect it to the switch, ground, and power, and thats it.
