Old DIY Door Handles - by Cheori 01-25-2004 , 07:48 AM

Installed!

Remove 3 bolts

Remove the cover, then remove 4 bolts indicated

Remove Tweeter (Pull it out), remove another 2 bolts.
If you removed all the bolts up to this point, pull the door cover from bottom toward you. It will be taken off pretty easily. Let one hold the door while other pull out the covering. Remove all the plugs that are in between them.

Remove White vinyl that are covering the doors.

Use 10mm hexagon? Thing to remove the bolts.
Then push the stock handles out. Requires a bit of force

Remove the yellow (on driver side) / white (on passenger side) plastic. Then install the chrome door handles (just tap it in to the where handles were used to be. Then proceed backward to finish the DIY.

FYI, check your keylocks before you assemble your door trims. You will need to adjust that keylcok properly otherwise you will end up opening the trims again..

mine rattled BEFORE this mod.. now, it's real quiet.. go figure..

on a side note, I'd like to point out that the "Then push the stock handles out. Requires a bit of force" doesn't really need that much force. if you look up in the door panel, the door lock swivels out of place for a nice easy removal of the handle from the door. Took me a while to figure it out when I was pushing on it and saw the door lock locked into place. Just a little hint for people doing this now.

It's all about how you put them back together, if the handles are a bit loose they will rattle.... I've not only installed the whole assembly but also swapped handles from different color tibs.... it's just a matter of experience, before you get it right...

its not the handles that rattle its like the arm rest on the door. when my hand is off of it and bass hits it does a quick rattle but when my arm is laying on it then it doesn't rattle at all, meh its prob just something I can't prevent.

I don't want to scare or piss anybody off but I also just want to help. Changing the door handles and/or the gas cap voids your bumper to bumper warranty... unless you find a dealership to do it for you.

I found this out through a couple of sources... 2 dealerships and a guy who is making a turbo for a buddy of mines Tib.

I found a dealership that is about to start putting them on because they are working on a contract with Shark racing to start selling the aftermarket parts right out of the parts and service dept.

Just a heads up guys. BE CAREFUL!!!

Sorry, but thats ridiculous. I think you should check with a few more dealerships, ones that might actually know what they are talking about. Thanks though.

Is there a trick to removing the bar that slides to open the door from the latch on the door panel?? I'm about to tackle this job but don't want to have problems with anything. Thanks.

FYI - I asked 3 Hyundai dealerships in my area (Fort Lauderdale), and they all said replacing the gas covers and/or handles WILL NOT void any part of the warranty.

just did my handles and this DIy really helps
wasnt hard at all
took me 45 min

30 min for the first door (took me 15 min to get the inside handle off )
and 10min to take everything apart
and 5 min to put everything back together

and the 2nd door took 15 min to do

1 thing i noticed was that there was no clear/white cover to peel back on the driver side
it was only on the passenger side
