Info: This is a quick DIY for fixing the problem with the stock sub...since the factory wired it up out of phase (backwards). This mod gives u better sound and better bass.

Total Time: 5-15 mins...but it really depends on how long it takes you to remove the wires and swap them...

Warning: Your bass will slap the crap outta your ear drums...proceed at your own risk.

Required Tools:

- socket wrench

Procedure:



* There are 4 bolts that need to be removed...start by removing the top 2 bolts. One is located on the strut tower cover and one is located just behind the tailight.



* Carefully lift the trunk cover and remove the bottom 2 bolts.



* Once all bolts are removed, fold-down your rear seats, then gently lift the trunk cover just enough to remove the sub...if u do it too rough, u can force the trunk cover to snap...



* Once u have the sub out, just disconnect the connector by pressing the release mechanism...



Next, remove the l_l_l shaped thingy from one side of the connector using the screwdriver.



* Then use a flat head screwdriver to get inside the clip between the metal wire connector and the white plastic tab. Then lift the tab and have a friend tug on the wire. Then pull out the right set wires (1 black & 1 green) and swap them. Next, pull out the left set wires and swap them as well. The sound should then fall into place and the bass should start kicking once u install everything back inside your Tiburon. (don't forget to put the "E" thingy back in)

I did it! Turns out daylight and a smaller screw driver worked! This mod is highly reccomened!

What a difference! Thanks for the info. I just got my tib Saturday and this was the first thing I've done.

FYI: I didn't have a small enough screwdriver, so I used a safety pin and it worked great.

Just a little more info. The socket needed is a 10mm and I used a large needle when the screwdriver trick didn't work.

Couldn't get the wires out so I just spliced and soldered. Worked like a charm!

UPDATE: so played a few songs and whoa! What a differance!

Did mine about 2 hours ago, its so easy. I didn't have a screwdriver handy so i used a throwing dart, worked well. If i ever hear anyone say this is to hard im gonna shoot them lol. Thanks for the DIY btw

I thought both rear channels were backwards. If that is the case, then the 6x9's are wired out of phase too. It would be easier to remove the dash, remove radio, switch the 4 wires in the actual harness coming off the deck and then put everything back together. This would put all the speakers in phase, instead of the 6x9's fighting the bass still.

hahahahahaha this is an awesome post! I'm at school and I'm surfing this site and I read about it and I wanna go home, skip all three of the classes (total of 7 hours of class) I have today and just go rewire my sub and sit in my car and listen...

hahahaha i rewired the sub...took me about 15 minutes cuz i couldnt find the freakin plastic thingies inside the connector...also took me a couple to realize where the |_|_| shaped thingy was...but all in all it is done...

sounds a little better...i cant say it blew me away, but it sounds better...i think people blew it out of proportion when they listened cuz maybe it was psychological...they knew it would accentuate the bass more so they were specifically listening for it...

anyways i am a happy man even though the difference isnt as great as everyone said it would be...

just did it myself - bass is noticeably more punchy.

one suggestion as far as taking out the wires, maybe this will help guide other people who run into problems.

if you are looking at the end of the white plug with the clip facing the bottom, you want to put the screwdriver (or whatever you use) on the top of the metal clip and then angle down while pulling on the wire. i'm not advoacting forcing anything, but it it does take a good tug to pull it out. did for me at least.

also, i couldn't find anything suitable so i ended up using a stick pin (like a thumb tack but with a handle) and it worked perfectly.

I just did this mod tonight and I have to say I love it! There's noticable thump in the car and it sounds much more expensive. Thanks for the DIY post. It took me about twenty minutes tops. It just took a while to get the bolts off because I didn't have a socket wrench. It still turned out well and it was worth it. Thanks again. I love it when the car thumps.....

well...this is interesting...cuz i actually used a flathead screwdriver...

looked into the end of the connector and saw the plastic piece...i wedged my screwdriver (it fit perfectly) between the metal wire part and the plastic clamp and used the driver like a lever to lift the plastic thing...after i did that once the wire just slid out...NO TUGGING AT ALL

as i was using the screwdriver as a lever it naturally pushed the metal piece out...maybe cuz the screwdriver has that little slant on it...

my mom won this awesome tool set as a door prize and everything is in that set so i had the screwdriver

I went out and did this mod today with this post printed in hand and got it done (took me a little longer then I would like to admit) I can't really tell by how much better it sounds - but it does sound better

Anyway the hardest part for me was getting the wires out to swap them - my advice: you have to push pretty hard the plastic bit lies on top of the wire to keep it from moving so you have to wedge your screwdriver (i used a 1.4 mm from one of those precision screwdriver sets) in between the plastic bit and the metal end of the wire pretty hard and lift - it wont be hard to lift it up but it is kinda tricky getting it in there.

All-in-all a mod that is easy to do (first thing I've done to the tib that actually involved a little thinking) and I think the end result is depending on your car.

I have a 2004 GT-V6 and I got a little improvement - your car might get you a lot more.

has anyone tried to address hyundai usa/canada about this issue?

I used a tool set that I got for taking a celica GTS for a third test drive. In fact it was the same day I bought my Tib. It was a noticable diffierence but I don't think the warning was necessary.

Thanks for the INFO! Just finished working on mine. I immediately noticed the difference, since I had the 'Evenescence' CD in the player. Play the song 'Bring Me To Life', it has some really LOW BASS at the beginning of the song......
