Warranty wont cover that. No-fault might, try to clame it as a vandalism.

Guys I found a way to fix the vinyl that rattles. It's real easy I just went out and bought some 7/16" foam tape and stuck a few pieces between the vinyl and window, its black so u can hide it real well. Also I stuck a few pieces between the window brake light (and just about anywhere that i thought would rattle). I cant hear anymore rattles. . .thank god!!!!

whenever i go through a bump it makes a clank sound as if 2 metals are hitting each other.. and i found out that the right rear side of the trunk has a big tool in it...im guessing its that tool making the sound...anyguess?? by the way..im taking it to the dealer in a couple days hahaha

Hey doug, there are more rattles in the hatch.

Madcow8me had rattling...and took the door thing off that u said...and it wasnt that...nor was it that wire.

u know the handle that u close the hatch with? ...well behind that there is like a yellow clip that holds the plastic to the hatch door...he stuck his hand back there and took it off, and now there is no more rattling in his.

now i dont know if it was just his car or what...but its just something else to look at if ppl are realizing its not that little door or the springs that open the hatch.

To those of you who have the crackeling or ticking sound only when its cold out i have some bad news for you...there is NO fixing that rattle. It is actually your rear window flexing...and I'm sure for some of you thesound gets worse when the rear defrosters are on. Its either a bad piece of glass or it wasnt seated on the hatch straight when it was installed.

Now for 03'tiburonz...your new exhaust resonates at a different frequency than your stock exhaust. Its causing a piece of molding to vibrate irratickly that didnt happen with the stock exhaust. Its just like the old film of the bridges that the concreate road surface rolled like a wave in the wind. You just have to figure out which panels are doing it...then just line where it hits the body or other panels with some padded tape. Either that or go back to the stock exhaust.

Old Re: Hatch Rattle 02-24-2004 , 06:50 PM

Actually, I have stopped ratting in the hatch 99%.

Both my compression springs are still there, they caused no rattling. I just did two things. First, I removed the little cover in the center of the panel (thanks picknrun), that solved most of the plastic to plastic rattling. But I figured out what the metal to metal rattling was by just lightly banging my fist on the panel a few times. If you take off the little cover panel, you can see in the bottom right hand corner of the open area where your cover panel was, the electronic locking mechanism that is triggered by the remote switch in the driver's door. This thing rattled like hell. I took some masking tape (cause I couldn't find anything else) and just taped the black part to the metal pretty tightly (taped it toward the front, not toward the back of the car), but I was careful not to tape down the turning thing that actually releases the latch for the trunk.

As for the remaining 1%, it has something to do with the rear wiper motor...and its so minute that I am not about to take off all the paneling to try to fix it.

Have fun...

Old "fixed" my rattle 03-01-2004 , 11:21 AM

Well i finally sucked it up and removed the plastic trim from my hatch yesterday and after driving to work, i'm semi-confident that i've finally fixed my rattle (unfortunately it was alot warmer today than it has been, so that could be it too, but I think i had rattling before it ever got cold in the first place).

I did it in stages, and the rattle didn't go away until I removed the finaly large piece nearest the tail of the hatch. Of course now the back of my car looks like crap and I need to figure out what part of that giant piece of plastic is actually causing the rattle...

One thing I did notice is that my hatch handle was a little loose, and once you get that plastic off, you have access to the two screws holding it in place... I tightened that up, but I don't think that was causing my rattle...or at least not all of it (I was hearing it on both sides, not just the handle side)

anyway next step is getting some foam padding or something and remounting the plastic.

Hello,

I was wondering if you could help me with removing the plastic around the hatch. I removed 4 screws (1 in the handle, one on the other side from the handle, and the two that the rear dash cover latch to). After removing these screws, the plastic still did not budge. Are there clips anywhere holding the plastic on?

I was afraid to just pull hard because I didn't want to break anything. Please let me know what you had to do to remove this plastic. Thank you for your help.

The only thing I removed to get rid of the rattle was that plastic thing that sits on the spare tire. Now the rattles are gone.

My driverside door rattled pretty bad when I got mine as well. Turned out the pull handle used to close the door was not completely snapped into place. I found it by accident out of frustration and squezzed it like that anoying chickens neck that used to wake me up on grandpa's farm and it "SNAPED" together. Eww sorry 'bout the farm thing but it had to come out. Low and behold no more rattle and a plate of meaty wings!

Tore the back end of my GF's Tib apart last night trying to fix the rattle. I refuse to drive the car it annoys me so much. I finally figured it out!! I tried every fix on this forum for the rattling back there but none of it worked. I really thought it was going to be the trunk release mech that was making the noise, but nope. It ended up being the hatch itself. There are two rubber bump stops that the hatch contacts when closed. Problem was though, the hatch was no closing tightly to these, so whenever you'd hit a bump the hatch would rattle against them. I think the reason why this rattle has only started within the passed 5 months or so is because the rubber bump stops have gotten hard with age, the car is almost 2 years old. Anyway, as a temp fix till I can get it to the dealer to fix it, I ghetto rigged some duct tape on the bump stops so that the hatch closes tightly against them. The rattle has stopped and I will once again drive the car with the ability to keep my sanity.

As strange as this may sound ,the stock antenna wavers back and forth and makes a tickity sound once in awhile also.. On mine i have found that its works its way loose really often also which causes a rattle. Ditch the stock antenna ASAP.

Sorry for taking this up again but I think this is the reason for most of the rattle. So heads up, people, try this before taking the whole trunk apart!
I got the same DIY from another Finnish tib owner. He wrote that his sister who is in the rubber/plastic industry had examined the "rubber stoppers" and that the material used gets harder over time and results in nervracking hatchrattle
I just wish I had read this a long time ago

not sure about what u guys mean by the rattle...what kinda noise are u hearing? is it with music or just quiet driving?...i know the rearview mirror has a tick noise but i just re-adjust it everythime it ticks and it goes away for the rest of the drive...
as far as music; when u turn up the volume the metal part on the seatbelts in the back start vibrating like crazy against the speakers which cause a loud rattle....i just buckle them (not like anyone fits back there anyway). i guess u could try that...

i have subs so no rattles for me =P.
EDIT: actually i dont hear a rattle from the inside with my subs bumping but if ur standing outside the license plate and something else rattles ALOT....which i find is a sound of embarassment as people give me glares when they are near my car....if only they were inside to hear it...
ANYONE know how to fix this?

Fantastic help, had the rattle when the temperature was super cold outside, like -10C and under. Popped the little cover off and now no more rattle. I will secure the cable when I get a second to do it.

Thanks a million.

Well i was in the same vote as most of you but i took off my plastic cover the one that run on the side of the windows, and i used a rubber coat to end the rattleing of the plastic peices. also i don't know why anyone would want to tape the outside of them off that would just look terrible. But when you have them off i taped the inside as well. I also taped the back hatch hole or whatever, where you get to wires. i taped that off. before that rattle from my sub poundin on it, but now does not. so the basis is that you need to stop any plastic from rubbing that should do it.
