Old DIY: Vent Ring Install 04-09-2004 , 12:05 PM

Thanks to Shark Racing for this post. Their customer service was top notch.

For the outer vent rings and key hole, just take out the stock ones, put the aluminum ones over the stock ones, and put them back in their place. For the big rings in the middle, you will need to cut out the stock plastic rings. Heat up the blade of a box cutter, and just carefully cut through. It's plastic, and will cut pretty easily. Then take a rag and screwdriver, and put it where the cut it, and pull away, and the ring will come off. I have included some pics of this.

Good DIY. Finished product should look somewhat like this. Hopefully your care is cleaner than mine in the pic lol.

I didnt put the aluminum around the key hole yet and was curious how to do it. Someone told me that it would keep my car from starting when i bought the kit.

thats only if you have an immobilizer. US-Spec Tiburons do not have an immobilizer, so it is not an issue for you.

Old Re: Vent Ring Install 12-13-2004 , 11:57 AM

You don't need to cut the vents off.

-Take out the center console and disconnect all the wires.
-Remove the radio.
-The left vent has three screws, one on the left, one on the right and one on the bottom.
-The right vent only has two, one on each side.
-Take out the vents once unscrewed.
-Unclip the vent rings from the vent, there should be four clips on the vent.
-Take off rings, clip on new rings.
-Put everything back together.

Sorry no pics, its pretty easy though.

It's like 6 screws, probably not even. Actually i think its like 2 screws on the bottom and the rest just pops out.

actually the center peice shut pops off. pull your ash tray out and that reach under the bottom part of the console and carefully pull.

I agree with the removal of the radio as the "safe way" You don't need to remove the center console, just the metal trim piece around the radio and heater controls. As it was mentioned before, remove the ash tray and the a/c heater/ temp knobs and pull gently from the bottom, work your way up, then disconnect all wiring.
Not too bad, total time for my a/c vent ring install was approx 40 min.

Yes, I'm buying the vent rings, handles, window switches/covers, and console cover from Shark Racing and it'd be awesome if people had pics of replacing all or any of those.

(I've been reading these forums for about three years on and off. I didn't have a Tibby, but was saving to buy one and FINALLY got one a month ago. Time to do all the things I've been reading about.
