Old DIY: Emblem Removal 04-13-2004 , 11:34 PM

I'm sure most people can figure out one way or another to do this, I just thought I'd share mine since it was quick, easy, scratchless, and I saved my old emblems.

Tools Needs
2 Cable Ties
Windex or other glass cleaner
Hyundai Protection Plan or other similiar membership/credit card
1 rag

Instructions
Getting the Emblem Off
Push the cable ties under the sides of the emblem then tie them off

Then move them around the the circle as far as possible around the top and bottom to get as much glue apart as possible. ending up in the red circles below.

Be gentle with the next step if you want to keep your emblems.

Slowly wiggle each side individually, pulling very lightly on the cable ties. Pull on the left lightly, then pull on the right, back and forth until it slowly separates form the glue. With much patience (although it should take you less than a minute), You'll end up with your emblem fully intact off of your car. You'll end up something like this.

Grab yoursle fsome sort of credit card or other plastic scraper and carefully scrape off a little, spraying periodicly with the windex, or rubbing vigorously with something like this.

Afterwards (hopefully), it looks like this.

Then its just a matter of removing the backing off of the new emblem, and securing into the provided holes. In the end, it should look like this.

hey, nice DIY, but the zip ties are kind of, "harsh". you can use fishing line which will cut right throught adhesive and you can twist it as needed to cut all the adhesive and just lift the emblems off.

My dental floss kept breaking so I switched to thin white string that I found in my garage. Worked much better than the dental floss!

Dental floss worked fine for me, maybe you should practice using dental floss on your teeth some time, and then it wouldn't break. Just kidding, It broke on me once or twice but left the car with a fresh minty clean feeling.

I would recommend after using something to get the glue off such as googone, wd40, bug n tar remover, windex, etc. that you wash the area well with some kind of car wash soap, dry it really well, and then use a good cleaner wax.

Hot sun and some dental floss, sprayed it with some water, came right off including the adhesive.

Make sure you use Automotive Goo Gone... the regular stuff might harm your paint!

Is there really a diference? I don't think so. Just make sure to wash the area very well immediately after.

Do the T emblems have pegs or something that go in the holes to get them aligned perfectley? I want to do the T conversion but don't want crooked emblems

Nice job, looks good.

I just find it interesting that you blacked out your license plate, but your Protection plan card is announcing your full name , VIN number, etc...oh well.

Sure got a nice finish though!...practically a mirror shot of your camera on the Tuscani word shot.

I just put on my T badges, and I pretty much followed the DIY.

First I tried dental floss which got the Tiburon lettering off (i just had to scrape a bit with my fingers) but I couldn't get it to cut through the adhesive on the H and I didnt have any fishing line. So I got a few zip ties and they came right off and I used my fingernails (why didnt I think of using a credit card...lol) and the armor all wipes (they were 4 bucks at WalMart so go get some, great for cleaning windows too) to clean off the rest of the adhesive, then I put the T badges on...looks great

I didn't see any scratches as a result of using zip ties, however, if it does scratch, it will either be covered up by the T badge or buff right out.

I learned how to remove the emblems off my wheels today. I've heard that you can pop off the 16" wheels emblems, but you have to take the wheels off for the 17"s to get the emblems off. No. You don't. I used the pry bar (that comes with the car)., carefully slid it under the Hyundai emblems (which wasn't hard at all) and it popped right off. The Tuscan i emblems went right in. After I figured that out, it was about two minutes a wheel. I would have taken pictures, but by the time I remembered, I was done!

I don't know if anyone else has run into it, but if you're going to remove the lettering, you might find that the paint underneath the lettering is a shade different from the rest of the car. It may just be that my car is yellow, and it stands out more, but if you look close enough you can actually see it spells out "Hyundai".. =( I'll see if I can still see it after a good wash and wax, but I might have to put the lettering back on.

Where did you get the word Tuscani lettering? I have a Tuscani, but it just says Hyundai where you have Tuscani.
