What does it mean when you check engine light starts flashing? O_O

Ever since the weather has gotten below zero, my car has been running like **** when I start it up in the morning. I replaced the gasket between the lower IM and the SC, that helped a good bit, but I'm still having problems. The car feels like its only running on 3 or 4 cyclinders when I frist start it. I have to turn the car off and restart it after about 2 mins to get the engine running "normal" again.

Normally the check engine light just comes on and stays lit. Well now it comes on and starts flashing... lol

I need to goto autozone and get the codes read.

I think part of the problem is the car is running REALLY rich, I need to go and get it dyno tuned.

Re: What does it mean when you check engine light starts flashing? O_O

dang i never seen a CEL flash, odd. the only time it usually flashes for me is when i'm erasing them after fixing the prob with a scan tool.

Could be a number of things bro, anything to your MAF (like mine), to anything such as a bas sensor or plugs goin bad (like lionel said).

But yeah, you need to have it checked to figure it out.

My other ride is an 09 R1. It has the power of a tib on 2 wheels

The dealer told me that when the light flashes you should not drive the car.

Re: What does it mean when you check engine light starts flashing? O_O

My CEL just stays on as a result of the Tiburon's sensitive sensors and my AEM intake, though after a few hundred miles, it goes off. Though having it dyno'd, I was told there was nothing wrong with its operation. I've had my MAF cleaned and went thru episodes of reinstalling the stock intake that I presently have at home, and it would still show when the AEM was put back in.
Though its steady as far as it blinking, its best you hit the dealership with that, well a good dealership as I did not know there were shoddy ones until I started posting here.

Did you reset your ECU after you installed your CAI?

Re: What does it mean when you check engine light starts flashing? O_O

Yes, I forgot to mention that, with the ECU reset the CEL would stay off until approximately 200 miles when it would just stay on again.

Get an auto-start, and start the car and let it warm up before u actually go to drive it, it wont fix the problem if there is an actual problem, but if its because the engine is cold then it will help out.

Re: What does it mean when you check engine light starts flashing? O_O

Appreciate the 411...is there any similarity with an auto-start and a remote start?

on webtech, it shows "Flashing CEL" as "Error Code 481 -- Too many damn modifications."

Anytime you get a misfire like that, your check engine light will flash. You're not supposed to drive the car like that, because it'll trash the catalytic converter in short order.

Re: What does it mean when you check engine light starts flashing? O_O

Flashing CEL's are hard codes and are cause for immediate attention compared to the soft codes where the light stays on. I would find someone to read that for ya in a hurry, but your dealer won't be happy with all of the modification and will be charging you for their assistance

Re: What does it mean when you check engine light starts flashing? O_O

Well just checked out the fuel tuner and it looks like its not gettting a good signal from the tps sensor, so I need to check and make sure I got the correct wire.

MAF readings are good.

Well I pulled the computer back out and reattached the TPS wire and everything is working now. Tomorrow morning when I start the car we will see if this was causing my problems.
