Question on the Valeo clutch conversion kit

So after searching I couldn't find all the info I was looking for. After much debate I've decided I don't want to put the ark flywheel and stage 2 clutchmasters clutch in as I wasn't able to acquire much info from people on the feel of this setup. I had a bad experience in the past with lightweight flywheels and I want to just stay with a stock feel. My question is will the valeo conversion kit be a stock like feel? I couldn't find the weight of the flywheel but I'm assuming it is not lightweight. Also since it is going from a dual mass to a single mass solid flywheel and from a unsprung to spung clutch will I have chatter with this setup. At this point it looks like my decision is between a single mass conversion kit or probably a luk or similar dmf and regular unsprung clutch. Is there any real benefit to this conversion other than having the ability to resurface the flywheel down the road?

Cost. It will be WAY cheaper than the OEM units.

Also, you are correct. The single mass conversion in that kit uses a similar weight flywheel.

Oddly I was just reading another conversion kit thread that you had posted in. Do you personally have this or another conversion kit? Luckily either way I go it will be about the same in price. I can get the valeo conversion for 390.79 or a Luk flywheel (which I believe is good) and a valeo clutch for 393.58 off of rockauto. There are other more expensive clutches and flywheels but obviously valeo is what the car already comes with and I have no knowledge of sachs or ams etc but luk I have heard of. What I need to find out is from a driveability stand point if it will be the same.

You can find kits like the one I bought on ebay for around $200. They have Valeo pp and clutch disk, but the TOB might not be Valeo. I only have 5k on mine since I put it in last May, but it hasn't given me any problems. There is a very faint "thud" when I engage the clutch, which assume is the disk springs bottoming out. No chatter or other weirdness.

EDIT: Here's one that shows all Valeo parts; you can see the "GMB" on the tob. A little more than $200, but still quite a bit less than where you had planned to order it...

Most aftermarket brands use Valeo branded clutch disc and pressure plate. You may find PHC/Valeo stamped if you look closely.
Some have reported that aftermarket TOB can fail prematurely. I would stick to OEM TOB if it fits your new clutch kit that you end up buying.

Well that's good to hear. Did it drive like the stock dmf?

Awesome find man. Hopefully I don't run into the issues you had when you replaced your clutch.

I heard the same thing about some of the aftermarket tob. Although if it is a valeo tob wouldn't that be the same as OEM?

Valeo IS OEM for a lot of applications. I bought a clutchmasters stg. 1 that had a Valeo TOB. Why reinvent the wheel, ya know? Itíll be fine.
