Re: DIY: Aftermarket(Wilwood) Big Brake Kit Install
Received your email last evening. The hoses for you car are M10-10 bubble flare to -3AN 90 degree for the caliper. These are the only hoses to ever be shipped on this or the former kits from some years ago. If you'll email me an image of the hose ends you have I'll be happy to verify them as that. If you need something different than this I have no idea what it is and would need more information.
Re: DIY: Aftermarket(Wilwood) Big Brake Kit Install
The image I received from breeecham indicates a set of hoses with the improper IF or inverted flare fitting on them. I'm at a loss as to why or how but wan to make certain nobody else has these by mistake also. I currently have two more sets of hoses on the shelf with the correct ends on them. Not sure if my supplier had a manufacturing issue or if somehow this one kit got the wrong hose set.
Please look at both hoses and see that they are concave or like the image on the right. If they have a raised center point inside the barrel that will be incorrect.
If already installed on your car I would not remove them to inspect. If they were going to give you a problem it would have done so by now. Even if the conical shape is incorrect and installed they have seated to the hose and should be left alone.
Re: DIY: Aftermarket(Wilwood) Big Brake Kit Install
Todd certainly took care of the problem quickly, the hoses were sent out the day after reporting the mismatch to him! What fantastic customer service, I was also able to file off the cross threaded portion of my hardline and it sealed up fine~
Re: DIY: Aftermarket(Wilwood) Big Brake Kit Install
drove it for the first time, pedal feels so fantastic, firm and responsive. I have to get used to the slightly increased bite. Saving up for the rear kit
Re: DIY: Aftermarket(Wilwood) Big Brake Kit Install
Finally installed mine about a week ago, and I'm just curious how everyone's brake pedal feels. I bled it and I bled it and I bled it again for hours and it was still a little squishy. I'm thinking an upgrade brake master cylinder is in my future~~~
It does still brake hard but the pedal isn't firm like I was expecting.
If it help helps to note, I also replaced my rear calipers with brand new ones and lines with stainless braided.
Also that noise I told you about when I was first bleeding them went away.
I talked with my friend who has a boosted RD with front and rear BBK, he said his pedal felt exactly like mine until he got an upgraded master from Wilwood.
Re: DIY: Aftermarket(Wilwood) Big Brake Kit Install
Hi guys...
Regarding the mc; there should be no reason for you to change the mc for this kit. The bore area of the four pot is a measly 4% more total area than stock. That displacement is probably less than the amount of movement the former slider caliper generated with free play. Even before this project all the older kits were in the same boat for total area.
Still, if you must....a larger bore is what you're after. This will make less pressure and force you to work harder is all. Some folks like that, others don't. Please also be certain you are not trying to bleed the lower fittings...they are only there for inverted use on the other side of the car.
REAR ROTOR KITS;
I'm keenly aware that a couple of folks have asked about the rears and wondered what the hell I was up to on this deal....the situation is a combo of factors: loss of older notes (yes I did this some six years ago) combined with no rear spindle for mock ups, and a big hat issue.
The front kit you have uses a Wilwood hat. The older rear kits used a TCE hat. They don't match. I think I have this ironed out finally (along with some brackets that fit) to use a Wilwood hat now. But we we remain using a TCE rotor. That means the slot pattern or D&S patterns are not going to be exact to your fronts. (I think the plain face is the same....) so that's as good as it gets. From ten feet you'd not notice it but I'm putting it out here.
I might be able to get one of them out next week in fact.

You have air trapped in the ABS pump most likely.
Bleeding an ABS pump after installing a BBK is a little finicky. I installed a Rotora Kit a few months ago, and had to borrow the Hyundai Scanner from a friend @ the dealer to properly bleed to ABS pump.
After that, breaks were solid, no mush.

That's what I figure is the case, but I really don't know. I might have to bring it to the *shudder* dealer to have them do that for me, since I don't know anyone with a scanner that can do that (I read about that btw).
Re: DIY: Aftermarket(Wilwood) Big Brake Kit Install
I believe I've solved the riddle of the rear kit. Two of them actually.
There are needs for two distinct formats of mounting here; one for the Wilwood hat and one (like you'e seen before) for the 'house' hat. The offsets are quite different and thus the mounting changes. But...alas, it's down to finding some longer bolts for the caliper- not sure the thread pitch here (anyone?) for the mount spacer.

My pedal was a bit mushy after I bled it and took it out for a drive. I just took it back after the drive and bled it again, and it is nice and firm now. Did you try bleeding it after you drove it?
