battery opinions pls?

my OEM battery is officially dead by now... so its time for a new one. i've been searching info about the best replacement.. found a lot of good feedback about the Optima batteries.

i have a small sound system. (10" L7 kicker, infinity amp.. about 400w i believe?)
interior lightning, HIDs fogs and lows (35w)

so my question would be...

should i just go to autozone or auto parts store and get a regular battery like a Duralast or go a bit fancy and get an optima battery?- red or yellow top?

i mean, would it be pointless to have spend more money on an Optima when i don't even have like a big sound system, the one mentioned above?

thanks in advance, i just want to get some honest opinions pls...

really? bc i just thought that just because of all the lights and sound.. a normal battery would die faster maybe?

the thing that is supposibly the argument with the optimas is that they are like 10x more vibrant resistant compared to regular batteries and hence why they should last longer... they also have a stronger turnover power or crank power (yes noob lingo, sorry dont know the correct words) than most batteries... I believe the red top is like 1000 whatevers (crank power) for a warm start and a cold start is 800 when a normally battery a warm start is like 800 or 700 and thats when warm... so thats the argument i've heard atleast with the battery having much more starting power warm or cold... I have an extra one im currently trying to sell right now thats brand new but with shipping charges you could just go to batteryplus (which is where I got mine) and get it for the same price... with tax and all at battery plus its like just over $170 and they had the exact battery that fit the tib with no modifications... and atleast with buying through them I received a warrenty... I payed like 10 or 20 bucks extra compared to online but it saved me in the long run... just my nonsense rambling and unneducated 2 cents

just got a new battery at hyundai, almost 3 years old.

they put interstate battery on my bill, but the battery says hyundai.

i got mine installed for $80 at my dealership. it came wrapped in some insulation, never seen that before
i have a red top. go with a red top

and its called cca (cold cranking amps)
I have an optima battery in my 06 V6 and it has destroyed a ton of things in my car. for the first 3 years it was really nice but i tried to switch to LED lights (with the stupid protector box on it) well it has sent my entire car into a tizzy fit and i fix one thing just to have something else go wrong. my recommendation would be to be very careful with an optima in the tibby. I had no idea it would overload things in the car and now im dealing with the consequences

I replied to your other recent post, a battery is a battery. The charging circuit supplies the charge. The battery does not "mystically" make voltage. Maybe a poor connection while changing the battery.

This is what we're running now

I think your mechanic is not using logic or sound reasoning in his diagnosis. I don't believe the battery will cause that. Sounds like it might be your alternator and integrated regulator allowing overvoltage beyond the 14 or so volts while the engine is operating. Otherwise you have several shorts in the wiring harness from previous damage.

Your avatar looks familiar from the Facebook groups... Are you still in the greater Seattle area with the white Tiburon? If so, send me a private message and I may be able to help diagnose it.
ACTUALLY, I have seen this happen before.

Let me preface this first by saying that I used to run Yellow tops in all my vehicles over the past 20 years, until these past couple years. I have never had an issue with them. They have lasted me a LONG time with no complaints.

That being said, we had a customer bring in a 2000 civic with a Red top about 15 years ago. It was causing all kind of crazy electrical related things, dancing gauges, i mean all kinds of crazy stuff and it would happen randomly while driving. Charging voltage was good, cranking amps were good.

We changed the alternator, made no difference. It was an educated guess cause none of it made sense at the time the way it was happening. Ultimately we changed the battery and the problem stopped completely.

So, I have seen it..... ONCE in my 20 years lol specifically with a Red top. I suppose anything is possible if the battery was damaged in some way maybe being dropped or something. Who knows. However, the guys are right. From a diagnostic standpoint, the battery would be the very last thing I would concern myself with.
