It finally came in the mail after a week of waiting. I have a question concering the flywheel - it seems like someone grinded something off it and I want to know if it was still usable ? This is RIPP's Stage 2 setup.

Its a serial number...it must have fell off the back of a truck...lol j/p
It was probably a clutchmasters logo or other identifying mark. You know... so that you don't know they're actually clutchmasters parts.
Well I want to know if for some reason it might unbalance - rendering the flywheel useless ? I was planning to do the clutch instal this 3 day weekend giving me time for any problems that might come up. If I have to return it thats going to totaly ruin my plan to do it this weekend.

Tomorrow, call up whichever company you bought it from (boostology?), and ask if it's ok to install like that, but Im sure it is fine like that. They just removed some label or something Im sure.
How deep is the grinding?? By the looks of it, I would say it's probably not enough to make a real difference. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can answer that for you. Until you hear from someone credible, I would err on the side of caution and hold off on the install. Better safe than sorry.... *shrug*

Yea Tom told me to send him a picture reguarding the issue after getting off the phone with him. I just wanted to post something up tonight so I can have piece of mind I guess.

I couldnt give you a accurate discription but if you run your finger across it you can obviously tell some was taken off. My guess would be in the thousands of an inch range as for an exact number I do not know.

The side where the mark is, wont be touching anything. It's the opposite side that mates with the clutch, so it shouldnt matter.

Well I was aware of that - that wasnt my concern. The fact that some material is missing and that it may unbalance it possibly?. I honestly dont know thats why I posted it on here to get some opinions.

I hardly doubt that that slight bit of material missing would cause a balancing issue.
I'm not trying to open a can of wtf, but it looks like they ground off somone else's identity, which is fine, but I like you when I first saw the pic, was thinking the same thing. Removing any material off one end has got to effect the balance even if slightly. I dont claim to know everything, but most of our lightweight flywheels (unlike JB) aren't "0" balanced, close, but not. I'd ask a machine shop. My fidanza and stage 4 cm are getting delivered today. I'll see what's stamped on mine. It just doesn't seem like a good idea grinding off material from a machined part that's supposed to balanced. One could say it may not effect it that much, but common sense says it it will effect it.

Well you can see what my concern is at least. I talked to Tom last night and he told me that its obviously something someone did on purpose and it didnt happen when it was shipped and that they might of grinded it down to balance it out - but I would think if they would balance it it wouldnt just be by grinding down a small part of it. When I first saw it I was like well I hope there not trying to hide something - and why even waste time to grind down a "brand name" lets say and possibly render the clutch useless.
Having the flywheel balanced should be in the area of 30 bux from a machine shop. wheel shops balance a wheel for less than that and this should be no differant. reguardless of what tom says....that is the ultimate pice of mind considering the $$$$ ya spent on it. hell, send tom the bill maybe he'll pay it for good public relations. considering the flywheels gonna spin at 6,000 rpm bein a little outta balance can turn into alota bad in a hurry.

You guys taking the engine out, or dropping the sub-frame for your install?

Dropping the sub-frame. And Im still stoked on what to do with my flywheel.
i agree with the person who ididnt take the time to read hes name who said to have it balanced and send him the bill
i m sure the virbrations it might cause could do seom serious wreckage
Better safe than sorry for something like this.
stupid thing is, people are saying that wouldn't matter, but they should know what's the effects of unbalanced wheels.

That shaved off section look pretty bad in my opinion. If you misbalance your wheel by 1oz, you will feel it and worsen as faster your wheel spins. If your flywheel's balance is messed up by .1oz, i am sure it will be a crazy problem when it's spinning at 8000 rpm too. I would just send it back and tell them to give you a new one. Who's stupid shaving shiz off flywheel????
