To make a long story short I have a 2007 2.7l motor sitting in my garage and I found a 2000 Sonata with the 2.5l that has a blown motor for $700.

Will the 2.7l motor fit in there? They look very similar just looking at them.

well I found out that they are from the same family of motors.... But are their interchageable?????

The Hyundai Delta engine family is the company's smaller V6, ranging from 2.5 L to 2.7 L. Both share the same 75 mm (3.0 in) stroke and both are DOHC designs.

[edit] 2.5
The G6BW (also called the 2.5 D) is the 2.5 L (2493 cc) version with an 84 mm (3.3 in) bore. Output is 168 hp (121 kW) at 6000 rpm and 167 ft·lbf (226 Nm) at 4000 rpm.

[edit] 2.7
The G6BA (also called the 2.7 D) is the larger 2.7 L (2656 cc) version with an 86.7 mm (3.41 in) bore. Output is 173 hp (129 kW) at 6000 rpm with 182 ft·lbf (244 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm. It has an aluminum engine block and aluminum DOHC cylinder heads. It uses MFI fuel injection, has 4 valves per cylinder, and features powder metal-forged, fracture-split connecting rods.

supposedly the 2.7 is just a bored out version of the 2.5.

will it bolt up to the mounts? maybe. will it work with the Sonata's ECU, dash, etc etc etc... no.

I know that is what I am thinking also. Once I put a 02 escort motor in a 97 escort and it was the same type of deal. I had to remove 3 of the sensors from the old motor and put them on the new motor because they had different plugs and that was it.

But still I want to get some more info. Hoping maybe someone knows more than I do about this.

The engines are the same except of of the cylinder bore. So if you use the ECU and harness of the 2.7, there will be NO problem. Perhaps you can also use the 2.5 harness, but I don't know exactly.
If you look close to the 2.7 engine you see "2.5" markings everywhere on the block and even on the heads!

I know this thread is old but yest it is possible. They are the exact same thing. Just swap over the coolant pipe that holds the t.stat due to the The coolant sensor are different. Ecu, wiring, etc, etc, not necessary. So yo u have .2L more, big deal. Btw I know this because I just did it.
