Took my tib to a shop to have the headers installed, waited 3 days for them to tell me they cant. when i asked why they said in order to install they'd need to remove the rack and pinion and dont have the tools to. is this bs? 05' 2.7 v6
Also, would it be better to install them myself?

Never had to touch the rack on mine with the crappy headers it had when I got it. I did have to unbolt the A/C compressor (not disconnect it, just move it a bit) and some of the manifold bolts are a pain to get to and easier from the top/others from the bottom etc. They were also touching the alternator which I believe had it's cover removed for clearance, but that's one of the reasons I ditched them and why the previous owner was going through alternators...

Sounds like they just don't want to do it.

That is incorrect. They do not need to remove the rack and pinion. Like peachferrari says, I can confirm that you need to move the alternator and the A/C pump and that's it. I never had to vacate the A/C lines to remove it, but it is hard to access one of the bolts with the A/C line still attached.

Take it to another shop that's willing to do it. Tell them they they do not need to remove the rack and pinion and point them to this forum if they have questions.

I was VERY Lucky to have bought mine from a Real good mechanic. He did the headers and bigger pipes too!
