People usually say that they've chosen a supercharger cuz turbochargers require extra maintenance.

But anyway, what are those maintenances and how often to you have to "maintain" your turbocharger ?

Just curious...

the one thing that has has always concered me was the oil from the turbo gets recirulated back in the engine. If the turbo starts to fail you will get metal in your oil. the other thing is shaft play on the turbo the shaft thats goes from the exhaust saide to the compressure side is under a lot of stress and heat. most turbo's go bad from too much shaft play from what i've heard. the other concern is underhood heat i've seen a couple of vids were people's cars have caught on fire due to a hot turbo and heat insulation laying on top of it causing a fire. thats all i can think of

the Mainteance you speek of would of would be making sure none of this happens

mostly they chose sc because:

1. they are lazy
1. they dont really know how to maintain a turbo
1. they believe its a monster to maintain
1. Its plug&play
1. Americans like SC due to its what you mostly place on big blocks
1. Because of #1, that's where most of the money is

They are all #1 because they all equally cause this... its a plague

I'm not bashing any SC setup, so dont try starting something. I merely stated my opinion since he was curious :)

not starting anything. I admit i don't know a lot about turbo setups. i do like the fact there free horsepower as oposed to the S/C which robs you of power. and the way they sound. however if i'm going to twin charge my car in the future i'm anything but lazy maybe a little crazy.

I check my oil at least every time i get gas and normally once in between (about twice a week, better safe then sorry) as for boost leaks ive been bad and only recently checked when i had a problem but now i plan to check about once a week.
