i recommend putting up video from even a camera phone if at all possible, that might help these pros narrow it down.

Since you had the manifold off, are you sure it is seated properlly and the gasket is not leaking. That sounds like what you are dealing with, a leak there will cause that same problem!
that is true too if you didnt place the upper manifold on the 3 bolts in the back you wont be lined up at all... have someone start your car and you look at that area while they try to start it, if you hear anything leaking from there that possibly could be it..
However dont get to close because it could cause it to FIRE while the engine combust, the last thing i would want to hear is you got burned...

Sounds like manifold. It's a vacum leak for sure. Make sure your manifold is tighten good. A member did the same thing. He called me up and was panicing. I told him what to do and TADA! Everything was in tack, tripple ckecked everything but he didn't tighten up the manifold down tight enough. You felt like an idiot afterwards.lol.

So, tighten down the manifold and the throttle body(to make sure).

My front end was on stands for a week and nothing happen to it, so its not that.
Let us know what happens.

the big *** vac line that connects to the back, almost underside of the IM is hooked up right? I forgot that one the first time I removed the IM. everything tight around the TB, I forgot if this car has an EGR that bolts to the IM or not, I remember my maxima did and that was causing the same problem, GIANT vac leak lol.

Are there any other abnormal noises when it "vrooms" for a second? Like any hiss or whine or anything? Are you able to rev it or keep it going at high rpms? Or does it just die right away no matter what? If you are able to "keep it alive" for a second, is there any subsequent knocking in the engine?

Does your car display a CEL or throw any codes when the ignition is at the ON position? Also, have you checked all fuses to ensure none are blown? Those are quick diagnostics.

Edit: Also, I know it was mentioned before, but check your throttle body bracket again. I know you said you didn't take off the TB, but you said you removed the upper IM in order to reach the back header bolts. That means you had to loosen the throttle body bolts, and with it, the bracket underneath. Check to make sure it is on the intake side of the throttle body, not the manifold side of the throttle body. This will cause a vacuum leak big enough that your car will start, and possibly backfire before shutting down immediately.

Ok, checked TB bracket, all vac lines, retightened IM, fuses, everything is good (except for the fact that it won't start). When I do try to "keep it alive" it lasts for 2 seconds max and dies no matter what I try to do to raise the rpms or keep it alive but I am able to get it to about 3000 rpms before it drops like a rock, and I don't notice a hissing or vac leak sound. I did however notice that when I saw the rpms dropping getting ready to die I slammed on the gas and It kind of backfired and then died. That's about all I got out of it. Now the battery is dead from all the times trying to start it, so I have to wait till tomorrow to get a jump. I'm thinking about paying the money to have it towed and fixed. I can't figure it out!

*edit* oh and no CEL either

I THINK I FOUND IT!!!!!! I got bored knowing that I can't do anything with a dead battery anyway so I decided to take the upper IM off completely and just clean inside of it just for s**** and grins. Well, I got it off, looked it over and there is a crack in it! It is on the back side (side towards the firewall) where the joint is for the runners and the flange, so I never would have seen it if I didn't take it off. It's about 1/4" thick and 1" long. That would cause a major vac leak. I made a temp fix with JB Weld until I can buy a new one and to find out if this is the only leak.

I am confused though because I don't know where it came from or how long it has been there. I wasn't even close enough to being rough with it or anything else during the header install. But why did it just come out of nowhere? Maybe a hairline crack was there for a while and relieving and re-applying the pressure on the bolts did it in.

I don't know, all I know is that I think I found the problem. I just have to wait for a jump now :3_headsha .

I won't know for sure until I get the jump tomorrow but I'm pretty sure that it'll work now....... and thank you every one for all the help!

Way to go on finding it yourself! That totally sucks about that crack. The fact that is there is a mystery....I would like to know too just how it got there. Strange!

BTW, I have an OEM IM that I might consider selling if you need it bad enuff. It is sitting in storage and has been for about 16 months. I was going to do a port / polish but I'll never get time. I'll have access to it in about 2 weeks.

Glad to hear you found the problem... I too was going to say Vac Leak , since I just did my Stage IV IM install and had a vac leak that was causing the same issues... if you are in need of a new Stock IM I can sell you my stocker... (NO CRACKS!) lol
