I'm about to join the family. I found a 07" Tiburon with just under 2000miles on it for a steal of $10 000CDN. Now I'm just as skeptical as you guys, however the owner bought it as a theft return and then completely repaired it. I took it for a test drive today and it is mint, I still would like to go have it inspected by a mechanic just to satisfy my nerves about it. The current owner owns a car repair shop and just wants to get rid of the car, there is very little interest in tibs in this area ... heck I can't recall ever seeing one at the local dealer. This could possibly be his other reason for selling it so low as he started at $15 000. By the way it is a GT model.

bout 13 months ago i bought a tib in mint condition for bout 13,000 usd with 5200 miles on it.

long story short the rear end of a pick up truck met with the front end of my tib and it had to go to the auto body shop where they discovered it had been in a major accident.

so it was a theft return... so id make sure all the electronics work first and foremost then check for tell tale signs of crashing. slightly misaligned ****. u have to check under the wheel well liner and engine plastics to see if any front end damage occured. also quality of paint job.. did he take off molding or mask everything off. did he barely do any sanding and jz applied a thin coat of color/clear 1 stage mixture.. all of these things are a must. if it was 5 grand id say **** it and buy it but since it is twice that then it is a significan financial investment and u need to think about whether or not this car is gonna be a nice ride or a money pit with issues down the road.

I agree with you completely, one part that puts me at ease is that the owner drives this car as his daily driver. When i asked him what exactly was damaged on it he stated that there was heavy damage to the underneath and some water damage. Before I go any further I want my dad who knows a fair bit about cars to take a look at it, and take it to a mechanic to have a second opinion.

hmmmm im not sure how damaging water damage is to a car but i know its a major turn off in auto deals "some water damage" may go a long way

True, haha this is all so stressful. I would like to think of him as a respectful guy seeing as he owns a local business and that he possibly just wants to get rid of the car. Like i said though I will get someone to take a hard look at it before I make a move. It was one of his projects to fix up the car he told me that after awhile he just lost interest in it. Possibly because as I said before, they are rare cars around here and no one tends to show them any interest.

water damage= walk away. period. wiring is a nightmare and adds up quick. it may be fine now, but what happens is the wires rust from the inside out and start braking, and usually tend to be like brake lines, fix one and a day later bam another one breaks

ps i saw someone running carfaxs for $5 on here

Yeah but I have no idea what he said the water damage was possibly could've been in the interior (if thats possible). I know I'm being completely naive about this, but I really need more information about the car. My fathers been having his company vehicles serviced by the guys shop for years and has never had any problems. Like I said, I'm naive but I don't think he would sell something that was a lemon.

not saying that he would, its just that these problems present themselves unannounced. so in essence if the water got deeper then the rocker, everything can appear all good and clear since the damage is on the inside of the wires. it could prove to be fine forever, could break 1 week after you get it. think about it before you do it. if this is your dads mechanic and something happens 1 year down the road because of water damage that the mechanic could not see then he may lose alot of business even though it was a legit mistake.

Hes not his mechanic my father just takes the companies vehicles to him whenever they need some work. Same with my sisters vehicle, he seems like a stand up guy and loves to race cars. Whooo knows, I may be getting ahead of myself here without doing some further investigation.

10 grand canadian is wayyy too much. i say talk him down to like 3-4. if he starts stressin the low mileage well tell him **** u buddy i can buy a used engine and tranny wit like 20,000 miles or less on it for less than 1 grand.

$10,000 CDN is a steal for an 07 GT. I paid $30,000 CDN new for my 07 GT.
The water damage I don't like. The "underneath" damage is sketchy too. You may have respect for this man who is trying to sell you the car but also take into consideration, he wants it gone. He'll tell you it's got "some" water damage, but what he won't tell you is where and how... little fishy to me. Honestly, it sounds like it's a lemon. If you want you can try and low ball him for maybe $7000 CDN but even that's not worth it.
I spent 3 months looking for my vehicle, and you wouldn't believe how many lemon's I wanted. I'm just glad I had people there that explained everything to me. As much as I wanted the used car, it wasn't worth it.
If you really want a Tiburon and they are rare in your area, I would keep searching. I just took a browse on UsedHalifax.com but they had nothing, you may need to look into a few provinces over. I wouldn't waste your time with this guy anymore, sorry to not get your hopes up but everything isn't adding up properly.

Carfax is realy ony best used if ur positive the care has been repaired at any major dealership or "well-known" auto shop (not locally btw) B/c if he indeed fixed the car his self or for the sake of argument, "uncle joe fixed it then you will not see it on carfax. Juss a head up...

A slight, and very good update. The water damage that was done to the car stems from it being found in a lake ... so I'm avoiding it like the plague.
a lake?! Jesus... so much for "some water damage".

Haha, sorry to hear buddy. If you really want a tib, I suggest you keep doing your research. Patience will pay off if it's what you really want.
