ABS is really very important to have!

last weekend I had my 2 day driving training where we learned how to brake on very slippy roads, getting around water-walls which burst up in front of you and things like that....my favorite one was where the rear gets thrown to the side by a special plate in the ground and one has to countersteer to stabilize the car again. I also was able to compare the Tib to other modern cars and we definitely got a very save and well-balanced car. on the wet circle road I managed to go exactly the 52km/h like I saw in a car magazine. I posted the video link before.

all participants verified that with ABS you could do these things much more easily than without...especially when one side of the car has good traction and the other not you can brake and even lift off your hands from the steering wheel...without ABS you spin around and have to countersteer alot...

with regard to understeer and power-off situation I was wrong...don't step on the gas again but simply try to drive a larger radius or brake and pray...nothing else left to do!

about USD 350...it was a present and I had so much fun, so it was really worth it.

it's 3 pm right now...

and I bought a DVD of the film they shot while we had the training...I'll get it by mail and it will take 2 weeks I guess. lets hope that I can post some scenes...

I found that video but it only works with realplayer on my PC maybe you can see something?

I dont a month long advanced driver training course at work...which was kewl because it was free!

I would strongly urge anybody to go on one of these courses...they not only improve your driving, but observations, theory and general understanding of what you, and the car are capable of.

;)

ABS weak point is it increase the distance needed to make a complete stop.

hehe very cool! I agree that everyone should try this. AutoX too. They both will help you become a better driver. Thanks for posting that! It was really cool to watch.

Well ABS that works well is cool, I dont think my ABS works well in all conditions. I know my ABS goes of when I brake on a rough/bumpy surface and it does not stop me as quick as if it did not go off at all.
In addition a good driver can out brake ABS in most all conditions. Ice and extrememly heavy water would be possible exceptions. I am thinking about disabling my ABS just for the fact I live in Texas and dont get much Ice or heavy water conditions.

We have had 2 stangs fall prey to abs, i had a dumb btch cut me off midway through and intersection. I was in the far left through lane and she was in the middle, wanted to cut over to the suicide lane to make a left hand turn. ABS was poppen off bat bat bat and blamo slide into her- bye bye front end. Not good for making sudden stops it just for people who can not control their vehical in wet and snow conditions.

ABS braking idiots keep popping out of the woodwork around here. There is no way any of you can stop a car quicker than ABS brakes. No matter what the paved surface is like, no matter what the weather is, no matter how good you think you are at modulating the brakes, you can't stop quicker than ABS. You will: 1. Lock up the wheels and slide/skid, or 2. Not get maximum braking effort to the limits of the tires' traction.

Just face it. ABS is the best thing to happen since hydraulic brakes were invented. You can talk about it all you want but, test after test has proved that you are wrong.

ABS is good in DRY and WET Pavement

ABS is NOT good in LOOSE surface like Snow and Sand.

there are many pros and cons to the ABS....i' was going down a hill covered in snow and my ABS kicked back(stuff like that happens) and won't allowed me to brake cuz there was soo much force that was kicking the pedal back so I was basically sliding down the hill...I had to switch the gear to regain control of the car....scary experience

Thanks Wajou. Anyone with enough sense to come in from the rain knows that I speak true. However, you are exempt from this rule..........being from Saudi Arabia you may like to play in the rain, if and when it ever rains there. :3_pimatyo

Snow and ice is where ABS does its best job. You may not be able to stop with ABS or without ABS....but with ABS you can, at the very least, have enough traction, while slowing down, to steer the car instead of just slipping and sliding straight ahead.

Next argument............

Same god damn thing happened to me with my old car, going down about a 20 degree road with snow, slammed on the brake and abs kept kicking in i couldnt freaking stop!!! i ended up hitting the dude infront of me. Bumper to bumper no damage....still scary ****...having no control over your brakes.

ABS are there because stupid ppl slam on their brakes....just pump them and its fine.

Yo Sleasy its a fact that people under normal conditions are able to consistently outbrake ABS. Its not by a large factor. I dont consider myself an ABS idiot. I ride a motorcycle and race shifter carts so I like to think I am a fairly decent driver, no Mario or anything but decent. I would like to see these test your referring to because most everything I have read or seen a good driver was able to out brake ABS by a measured distance at least a few feet. ABS is great for some instances but I am telling you when I am braking on a rough road the abs should not be comming on and it does!

What is a ****tard? Should I be insulted by that term? Check your facts, make sure you are correct, then get back to me. Can you show ANY reliable evidence that non-ABS brakes can stop better than ABS brakes....any published test results, or is this just your opinion? If you're gonna go chin to chin with me, then let's see some solid, verifiable, published evidence. :3_saai:
