Alpine Supercharger: 1st Year Evaluation

It's been just over one year since I had my Alpine Supercharger installed. I've had only one minor problem with it. The S/C pulley was not aligned with the engine pulleys, which caused the serpentine belt to jump a 'tooth' toward the engine, which the belt completely cut through my timing belt cover. I notified a Rep at Alpine, by 10:00am the next morning, Alpine sent me a custom made spacer, a new serpentine belt, and a new timing belt cover from Hyundai. I'm the only one known to have this problem.
Having the Supercharger installed completely changes the personally of your Tib. From the Intake Roar from the CAI, to the High Pitch Whine from the S/C,,,, from the slow pull to Red Line, to being thrusted into the seat (like afterburners being lit),,,, from running dead even with Nissan Sentra SE-R's, to walking away from Mustang GT's.

I could never be happy driving my Tib without the Supercharger installed, it would be like dating 'Pamela Anderson', without her Breast implants. It just wouldn't be the same......

Awesome. Alpine has made a nice kit. Very widely distributed and very good responses. Time will tell if newcomers can really compete across the board.

im lovin mine. :)

I'm still laughing @ the V6 Auto Tib from Lakeland with I/E/H + Alpine S/C that ran like a 16.3 compared to Claudette's stock 16.1 times..... it was just way too funny.... the guy left the raceway immediately after that run completely embarassed about his loss...

There was a Tib in the Pic? Nice testimonial. I'm really thinking about this. Since it will pass emissions and I don't have to get headers for it.

Yeah, what happened there? Is he just a crappy driver or is something wrong with his setup?

But i'm still wondering about the relevant differences between the Alpine and the Ripp super chargers, besides the type of course. I've heard better #'s from the Ripp, but can the Alpine compete if the boost is turned up?

to turn up the boost you should replace pistons/rods. 3 PSI of boost is not a heck of a lot of power, so i'm guessing the kid mentioned above was driving a MT and didn't know how to launch and when to shift.... i mean, even Mine's Better is @ less than 200whp after adding the S/C. I'm thinking you cats on 3psi are going to run mid-high 14's. 14.55, 14.6, 14.65, 14.7, 14.75 - etc - assuming you are GREAT drivers. i'd like to see someone grab a 14.4 or lower, but i don't think it's going to happen w/ just bolt ons. You're going to need to do some serious motorwork. No doubt, your S/C can push enough boost to get you there, but you'll wear out piston rings in 5K miles unless you do the work to upgrade those components before hand.

i'd never heard of alpine before i joined this board. RIPP has been doing S/Cs for a few years now. I'm pretty sure they were the first company to release a F.I. option for the 3rd generation eclipse (i know they have a RIPP MODS 3rd gen eclipse superchargers, i just don't know if they were FIRST). The guys on that forum have it, and with additional work have mad incredible gains. Like after it was all said and done i know a guy making 255hp at the wheels (like 320 @ the crank - it's an automatic!) and like 225 lbs/ft torque @ the wheels.

I have had my Alpine Supercharger now for almost a year and a half. It is without a doubt the single best modification I have made to the car hands down!!! I would never want to drive the tiburon without it again, there is just no comparison to before and after. I would also like to add that I have put a little over 20,000 miles on the car since adding the supercharger and it has been perfectly reliable. I am EXTREMELY satisfied with it.

For my first time on the track last month, i didn't do so bad, but i know i could do better.

I was on 3.2 psi and i had snow tires on my car. I ran a 14.5 at 99.69 mph trap. I think it sux personally, but it was my first time ever on a track, i sucked at the driving. I kept spinning the tires, and kept missing third!! DOH!!
i will post the slip soon. Hopefully, i'll be able to go back to the track next week. Wish me luck!!! :3_winkthu

This s/c rules!!! 9psi here i come...... :3_wink:

alpine is great, we know it can get us in to the 13"s with only 3.9bls of boost that is great in my book.and soon low low 13 i hope.....

If you want to expand to 250+ the Alpine may not be the best choice, but for 50whp boost out of the box it is still mighty attractive.

Evil Dylan ran 14.1 with just bolt on's, no S/C. And alos Ripp's SC is running 10psi right now on the stock internals and ran a 13.9. They also said that they think the setup they have on the Tib. is the most powerful they made to date.

I love how your wipers come on when you take off! Thats greatness...
Hmm, the wiper's came on due to the wheel hop, I've since lowered my Tib, and when I get my new clutch, I'll replace the Motor Mounts. Then I won't have any Wheel hop what so ever..... Then I'll be able to launch faster....

Just remember, when you install the Supercharger, especially with the MT, you will need to go to a 2 1/2" Main Pipe, split into 2 1/4" Tail Pipes, with Low Restriction Muffler's to really make the Supercharger sing. Your Low End power will increase drastically.....

Unlike Turbo's, Supercharger's run best with just a little Back Pressure....

I have a some "bolt-ons" and my last run was a 14.50 @ 97.4 with a crappy @ss 2.3 sec 60'... on worn street tires. That was my only time back to the track after a few upgrades over the winter, and I only had a few runs. I would seriously bet on the fact that by the end of the summer you will see quite a few NA tibs running in the 13s.

14.1 w/ bolt ons? First thought - How?!?
Second thought - Damn!! If that's legit, he's a hell of a driver. I don't think
I could match that. More than a full second w/ bolt
ons! What mods has he done?!?

No doubt - you can run a higher psi "out of the box" but i don't know if it's something i (personally) would be willing to do with something i'm still making payments on.

I bet it is! They've posted some incredible numbers!

Nice. Do you consider cams bolt ons?
