I'm going to run as a novice in the AM novice class so it's a 7:30 arrival time if you want to run with me. :)

This was SO MUCH FUN running in Packwood that I encourage everyone to come and at least try it. If you don't know what autocross is, here's a few things about it:

The first few times you run at a site you can run as a novice. This means that you don't have to worry about what class your car is in. You'll be running against other inexperienced people regardless of their car.

Autocross speeds don't generally exceed highway speeds, at least not by much. They're tight technical courses where precision and smoothness is the key, not high horsepower or car mods. It is possible to be competitive in a bone stock economy car.

You can't (easily) crash into anything and break your car. You race alone through a course of cones set up in a parking lot. If you go wide in a corner you will hit a traffic cone or two and that's it. So you don't have to worry about crashing into another car or a tire wall or anything.

If you're interested at all come on out. It's a blast!

Wow I'm glad to see you really enjoyed yesterday.

Haha, and I'm supposed to be the autocross junkie on NT. Looks like I have some competition. I'll be going to this event too and most likely the Packwood event on the 29th as well.

Online registration isn't up for this event yet, but most likely will be up in the next few days. Soon though.

Since we need to catch a ferry to get across, would those who are coming to this event like to meet up first? So we can catch the same boat over too. Let me know. I like to run in the AM in order to get the event done before 12, also if there is time to run in the afternoon or fun runs, I can do that too. :)

Haha, I don't know if I'll have new rims and some Azenis by then or not. If I do I'll run the Accent again. If I don't I'll probably run the Tib this time. But yeah I can see this becoming a problem. Lol! I'll see how things go before committing to the Packwood event on the 29th but I'll probably come to that one as well.

I think I'll cross at the narrows with the south sound people instead of taking the ferry. There may be north enders that want to cross over though. If they respond on another board (I posted on a few) I'll get them in contact with you.

Online registration is closed.. Tried the link. It went to the May 26th run.
My copy/paste = FAIL. I'll remove the link until it's operational.

I plan on running the same time as Floyd, which is in the morning. I think with me and floyd, we can cross the narrows just as easy and cheaper than a ferry.

Floyd, do you want to meet up with me and drive up?
Sure we can meet up Colin and cruise up together. And yeah I want to cross at the narrows instead of taking the ferry. There should be more coming in our group also.

<Points to my post above>

Event 4 registration is not up yet. <Smirks> lol

Haha, so remove that damn speaker box. Extra weight! Who needs it?!
By the way, have you gotten in touch with Tim lately? He should come, just so I can see him Haha.

I just left him a message on his cell a minute ago. We talk often. I told him to register and look here for it.

Aright already! Talked with my wife... She misses you Davin... So we HAVE to go! I would like to bring the Miata BUT, I can't afford the gas for both cars. So the Sonata is going to be the one coming. Plus I want to learn its limits. Need to know exactly how much traction I will have. Plus I think everyone would love to see a family sedan pushed to the limit! So Shari, Brittini and I plan to meet you guys at Krispy Kreme in the morning on the way.

#14 ·
Beware, it may be a Sonata, and my first run I will probably hit a lot of cones on the right side, BUT, I'm Fast! Colin and Davin can vouch for that!

#15 ·
<nods>

Also I've seen a Sonata run at another autox site I used to run at. Me and the other driver had a nice little rivalry going on. Quick car for a such a big FF sedan.

WOOT TIM IS COMING...AND SHARI...AND THE BABY?!

I want to see the baby.

Wilber gonna have the Golf ready for this one on the 22nd?

I am leaning 80% on coming to this one as long as we are doing the 7:30 / AM check-in one again as I am in a Sunday evening softball league.

Krispy Kreme @ 6:30am... I will have to make sure I get to sleep early Sat night.

I'll post a for sure in the next few days.

Sharkrocket and Duffer should show up... maybe 06SharkGT since we are right in your home town. It would be cool to have a few more Hyundai's. We were lonely this weekend (Mazda's & Subaru's were everywhere)... although maybe not as lonely as Wilber's VW... but he's a hyundai owner to the core. :)

And why not a few of the Kia guys... a lot of there cars could be well made for this kind of event,
bmxer?? The Spectra seem like they would handle real well here.

I really want to bring the Miata, but then the baby can't come. I know I wouldn't be fast in that car, FR's are tough if you're used to driving FF's.. Plus I haven't had a lot of time behind the wheel of the Miata. Been riding the bike so much. Should have it back up and running next week though, new rear wheel, tire, hub, disc, sprocket and chain on the way! Last time I ran the Miata at Bremerton I was WAY slow on my first run. My XD would have beat it. After the 4th run I was 5 seconds faster. Lets just say, when you feel like you're going fast in a Miata, you're going REALLY slow! When I had my fastest time it felt like the course was going slow mo! Bremerton is an awesome course for speed. The Miata is slow there because I have a 1.6L with open differential, the Sonata would probably keep up with it because of the speed of the course. Can't wait to get out, I've been dieing to autox this year....

BTW Colin we're going to be classed together. Checked the BSCC website last night, according to their rules. Medium Sedan is 1.8L to 3.0L so we'll be together. I'm sure that includes everyone else on here if they're running in Stock. According to SCCA rules all Hyundai's are classed the same. It'll be fun!

BTW if anyone wants some pointer while we're out there, I'm always here to help, and I'm sure Davin is fully loaded with info now, sounds like he's the new autox king. When I get more pay I'll be spending more time at the track. Its just tough fighting between bike fun and and car fun now. I have to many choices!

I don't think I'll get to play in stock. They helped me class my Accent (in Packwood) and it fell into FSP as it sits. The Tib's got too much done to it also to run in stock. I think it's DSP. I need to read the BSCC rules again to figure out what that translates to there.

So, there's going to be at least one each:
GK
NF
HD

I'm wondering if I should run the Accent again to round out the Hyundai field? What's everyone think, run the Accent again or the GK? If I run the Accent again I'll run the GK on the 29th in Packwood.

#23 ·
Do you think it would be more beneficial to run the two cars at different sites or to wait and run them both in Packwood since it's only one weekend later?

The speed of the Bremerton course is faster than the Packwood course? I was hitting 65mph in the Accent at the end of the first slalom the two times I shifted into third. The rest of the times I bounced it off of the rev limiter at 55mph in 2nd for the last third of the slalom (at the novice instructor's recommendation contrary to my own instincts).

If it's faster than that I'm sure the Tib would own the Accent. The Tib is a much quicker car. I thought the Packwood course was pretty fast, it was larger than I expected but I had never been to any autox course before so I didn't know what to expect.

#26 ·
The Bremerton course is longer and typically has more slaloms. It is on the main taxiway and runway of the airfield. You start on the taxiway and end up on the runway at the end. My best time (my first and only time doing it) was between :56 and 1:08. (that was when the red car was bone stock). Speeds could hit 60 easily.

#24 ·
I think you may find that the Tib is quicker, But not as smooth and maneuverable as your accent.

However, until you've run both cars in a few runs each on the same course, I'M not sure you'll get an accurate picture / idea. I'm saying all this with my extremely limited auto X experience of course, so take it with a grain of generic brand salt. :)

Why don't you bring both to Bremerton?

#25 ·
I might bring both to Bremerton, but I don't know that I'm man enough to drive in the morning with one car and afternoon with the other in one day. It took a lot out of me driving in the morning only up in Packwood. It didn't seem like much at the time but I was sore on Monday. Not to mentioned burned. lol.

In regards to speed differences and courses. This is autocross, the same place will never have the same course. Who ever sets up the course will determine the speed at which is available. Next time you're at Packwood the course could be faster, or slower. From my experience I have done probably 8 times at Bremerton and 8 times at Everett. I have never been to Packwood. Its just such a long drive that I never felt like taking the time to make it out there. From the areal photo's and satellite photo's I've looked at of the course you can totally see that Packwood has wide open expanses so I can totally see some stretches and high speed turns that could be made at the course. As far as the reason I have said Bremerton is fast is because I compare it to Everett, and the one time the SCCA used an area by Alki beach. The Everett courses are set up in a large parking lot that is L shaped. This is ideal for small nimble underpowered cars. The Miata's dominate there. At the Bremerton course it is U shaped, the runway is about double the width of the taxiway. So running there tends to be very fast because there is limited space to create turns to slow you down. When I've run the Miata I've had times I had to shift into 3rd or just remain on the rev limiter. I've actually found that staying on the rev limiter was faster because it didn't upset the car as much as shifting up and down and braking harder.

Sephlar I have seen my share of spins, but the worst have always been at Bremerton. At Everett we had a guy spin out of the parking lot into the bushes once. But his car seemed fine. Plus we've had close calls with the light polls in the parking lot. At Bremerton there have been a lot of people who've spun into the grass. One time when the course was set up to run NW down the taxiway and transition onto the runway I was running my 03 XD was making the left highspeed turn into a right 90 lowspeed turn and the rear end shifted out in the left turn when I let off the gas. I fought to transition to the right hander but the rear was out to far so when it caught traction I spun around to the right 270 degrees. Just missed the grass. It was raining that day. One time when we were running from the runway to the taxiway we had a Mustang full race car spin out off the course in the transition to the taxiway, the girl even had an instructor in the car. It went off into the ditch, almost hit a tree, just beside the taxiway. Was kind of weird because no one else spun in that area that day. We had a guy spin on off the East side of the runway into the grass and covered his scoobie in dirt. He still beat my time. LOL But last time I was out at Bremerton the SCCA had rules for going off track. I'm sure now they try to keep the course tightened up to reduce the chance of spins into the grass.

I was there that day. I spun out in the next left high speed turn sending my *** end the other direction than I wanted it to be in. When it spun out, my XD's left rear wheel was completely off the pavement. The V6 Tib 19.2mm sway bar on the XD is a great mod for 3 wheeling. I wonder if the NF and HD will do on that respect.

#32 ·
I don't think the NF will do three wheels. If it does the inside rear tire will only be inches off the ground. I don't think the chassis is as strong as the XD's. That was where the Honda guys flipped out when I was going faster then them in corners cause it was three wheeling. Just defies logic when thinking, 4 wheel have more grip than 3....

#37 ·
Yeah, I'd like to pay closer attention to tire pressure this go around, maybe get a bit better traction.

#36 ·
Yeah, I'm more jazzed for this event than the last one. Give me a chance to set up some more serious runs too, where I'm listening to the car more rather than just running around. ;)

Tim, also, when you get the chance, PM me with your cell phone number. I'd love to give you a call and chat. Been a while since we've talked.
