Seeing how me and numerous other noobs (aka regular folks ignorant to the science of car audio) rely on the the input of you guys regarding our decisions to modify our tibs, I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread where folks could give their opinion's on what the best brand of speakers for the tib would be......

So for the sake of all those ignorant of car audio.. state which speaker you believe is the best (for the tib or cars in general) and your reasons (wether personal or based on professional advice) for choosing such.

also, give some advice regarding which type of speaker is best depending on the situation (aka would it be better to have 2-way speakers in the front and back if you decide to install a subwoofer in the trunk)

links are cool and all but Im really depending on experienced tib owners (aka yall) to put some brands up (seeing how Ive heard the types/brands of speakers function more or less efficiently based on the acoustic's of a particular car, If Im wrong peep the sig) ...

With that said, what do you believe are the best brand of speaker for the tib?

you can put down a list of great brands, or you could just suggest one based on personal satisfaction.

For Bass.... Let me suggest 2, 10in or 12in JBL in a Bandpass box. I think it sounds the best given we have hatchbacks and not trunks......

for the small speakers inside the doors they are 63/4 or 61/2.
get a good 2 way component set, the kind with seperate tweeters.
the tweeters usually can fit in the stock location by the window.
for the rear a good set of 3 way 6x9s is what you need.
I've had good luck with infinity reference, Memphis Mclass, Polk audio DB or DX or EX
Jl audio also. these should range at $100-200 a pair.
get the best front speakers you can afford because you'll here them the most.
the rear speakers can be somewhat cheaper because you won't need as much from them.
also the brands that yamahamian mentioned, but they are very expensive
get a quality 4 channel amp either 50x4 or 75x4. I think JL audio makes the best amps.

for bass all I can say is don't buy the woofers at circuit city or best buy. if you want loud bass, pay at least $150 a woofer or more. get some quality woofers such as Memphis mclass or M3, Kicker L5 or L7,
JL w6 or w7, crossfire, diamond audio
or if you don't need so much bass then infinity and polk woofers sound good, but you cant push them hard or they blow.
again a jl audio amp will be the best for your woofers. other good sub amps are memphis, mmats, and JBL is a good bang for the buck - very powerful, but sound quality isn't great.
also remember that the box that the woofers are in is more important than the woofers.
a cheap woofer will sound better in the right box than an expensive woofer in the wrong box.
a good sturdy box is a must. cheap boxes break apart and rattle.
the kind of sub box you need depends on what you listen to and what your woofers prefer.
sealed boxes are the easiest to get and always sound good.
ported boxes are good for rap and loud bass. will be both louder and lower than sealed. good compromise.
bandpass boxes are the loudest, but have limited frequency range.
they are the best for hard booming bass, but won't be great sound quality.
just a quick rundown. hope that helps

you suggest a 3 way speaker pair in the back even though the sub would cover bass right?

btw, they sell some 6.5 new bostin acoustic speakers for about $75 on ebay (from a power seller)

you could get 3 way or two way it really doesn't matter. most of the better speakers are 3 ways.
most 3 way speakers the third part is for midrange voice type sounds. they don't have more bass compared to a 2 way.
the sub plays sounds the 6x9s cant make. if you get an aftermarket amp most of them have filters so you can tune the sub to the 6x9s so they don't overlap.

boston acoustics are expensive. I looked at the $75 6.5s good speakers, but those really arent what you want in a tib.
you dont want a coaxial speaker you want a component set or seperates.
these have a 6.5" woofer that goes in the doors, a small tweeter that is seperate and mounted by thewindow inside of the sideview mirrors on a tib.
they usually come with little boxes that are crossovers. they filter the music and give the speakers the right signal for them to sound best.
cheapest on ebay i could find boston acoustics for was $ 192 ouch
they are definetly worth it, but i cant afford it!
a good infnity or polk set should be much more affordable.

I suggest that if you aren't willing to drop 150 dollars or more on a good component set, then you may as well not even bother upgrading... The stock speakers aren't that bad after all, they just need better power and better crossovers.

Well if you shop around you can get a good componet set for less than 150, ebay is a good place to look at. there is no best speaker to get, it all depends on what you prefer. Now certain companies are know for producing quality equipment. focal, infinity, jbl, morel, ect. just remember you get what you pay for.

When it comes to subs it really just depends on what you want. if you want something loud, and dont care about sq then any cheap sub could do that. For subs I would go with jl audio, ma audio, mtx is pretty good. there are lots of different brands that are quality stuff, just make sure you dont go cheap on anything. the amp should match the quality of the sub.

aren't the Type S 6.5" components too deep to fit in the tib doors?
I got 8 " eminence concert speakers in my door with plenty of room
I cant think of any speakers that would be too deep for the doors.usually most speakers need adapter rings anyways for the tib so you can make a thick ring that will give a bit more clearance as well.
I havent seen the alpines are they huge or something?

All show, no go. There are so many brands with similar price points that are superior to Audiobahn.

Have you used the recent setups from them? I to once vowed to never use them due to the poor quality and high availability i.e you can get them from anyone. Over time they corrected their errors and made quite a good product. Anyone who has seen the setup likes it. Even more anyone who has heard it is blown away even more. All im saying is they did suck in the past. Now is a different story. Kinda like Hyundai.

But there are still much better products out there for similar pricing. Alumapro, Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, Memphis...heck, you can do a search at some of the internet retailers and luck into products that have better construction, better materials, don't look as flashy, but sound so much better, SPL and SQ oriented. I would take a lot over Audiobahn/Alphasonik.

Ah the big over rated name brand stuff. Had it liked it but not the best. I guess to each their own huh. :3_saai:
