My brother has a 2000 celica gts 6 speed that is pretty peppy. I haven't tried to race him with my ride yet cause he gave up his life of fun and got hitched to a chick that transformed him into a whipped slave. But anyways, I don't think that it's *that* slow.

stock for stock the GTS 5speed will tie if not beat a STOCK Tiburon. **EDIT** this is with equal driver ability

Now the Cougar... hahaha. My girlfriend had an Auto cougar (new body style) and I had a 97' 5speed Tiburon with a cone filter in highschool and we raced a few times and I beat it everytime. I cant imagine what a V6 5speed Tib would do to one

I've come to find that celica, eclipse, RSX, scion all tend to be driven 80% by young women the rest are old people, people who don't mod, ricers, people who are full of themselves. I've beaten all with just intake and I kept up with a RSX-S with exhaust and beat one with I/H/E. Most people who can afford the mods for these cars usually either just buy an older car that mods cheaper or a new car which is faster stock.

yea well I beat an 07 VW Rabbit (intake) 07 City Golf 1.8L 8V (stock) & a 92ish Jetta 1.8L 8V (stock) lol true story, my buddy Chris's cars.

I test drove a few celicas befor I bought my Tib, I was really suprised how slow they were. Most of them around here are pure rice, fart cannons hanging at 45 degree angles toward the road, 4ft high wings

I really liked the way the 7th Generation Celica (2000-2005) looked, until I saw the GK the first time.

Well... the celica is a good 500lbs lighter, and makes about 180 hp, and around 130 ft lb of tq. It has variable valve timing, and high compression (11.75:1 I believe, or maybe 11.5:1). Yes, an intake will net a gts over 20 hp, if not more.

I traded in a 2000 Celica GTS Auto for my 2003 GTV6. The Celica GTS was a bit more responsive than my Tib is, but to get the full benefit of the car (greater hp) you have to have open roads and be willing to floor it vvti or whatever it was to kick in. Given Chicago's heavy traffic, those times were few and far between. The torque of the Tib makes for a much more pleasant commuter drive in day to day gridlock. The Celica was lighter, took corners better, and stopped better, but Chicago isn't the place for a Celica. Mind you, this is stock verses stock. I miss the Celica, but totally enjoy my Tib. Especially since it takes regular gas instead of premium, and accelerates from a stop more surefootedly because of the V6 and its porky weight.

There'salways a tradeoff when you get a Toyota. Usually it involves giving up performance for reliability. If you rev the little 4-lung engine to its redline and cut the clutch loose you can get it to get up and go.

My daughter has a 2000 GT, 5 spd., 4 cyl., and it's pretty snappy. Probably take me off the line, but I think I'd catch her before the quarter. Not that she'd race her old man.....
