Ok, Heres the story..
A couple of days ago I changed out my timing belt, spark plugs, spark plug wires and installed my CAI. I drove from SLO to San Diego on a full tank of chevron after the install and no CEL no problems whatsoever then I pumped gas from the autoport by san diego naval base 87 drove it on the high for about 3miles.. then the CEL came on..
So heres what got me thinking that its the gas.. I drove 300+ miles and nothing happen but the one moment I went cheap the CEL came on? Could this be possilbe?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah, plug in a scanner. Because after driving that far, maybe something on the car deteriorated or started to fail and the monitors on the computer started to watch it. So it could have been a two trip code, after a key off engine off when you filled up. and then the light went on once you went back to KOEO. Key on engine on.

check your gas cap, maybe you didn't tighten it all the way. anyway, if you scan the code it should tell you the problem, whether you just forgot to tighten the cap (EVAP leak) or if it something more sinister (misfire or something)

Well, I ensured that the gas cap was on tight 3 clicks.. what worries me is the it could be the vision spark plug wires.. because I've heard good and bad about them.. also when I installed them they didnt seem to fit w/o a whole lot of force.. but I'll scan it. It could just be some kind of spark plug misfire?

I highly doubt it is E85 by default. You car would do much worse than just throwing a CEL. If it is E85, don't put it in your car unless you really, really hate your car.

well, considering that our engine(a 2.7 v6) only makes 172hp is pretty pathetic to me, so I didnt see the point in pumping at chevron or shell for 4.35 instead i got some gas from the navy's autoport for 4.05.. So my guess is that since I vamped up the Air and spark but still had crappy fuel the computers like "wtf"... also when I drove it to San Diego I had put Chevron injector cleaner w/ the full tank, does that make any diferences?

Ok.... a few things about your situation.

1. Get your car scanned first, my guess is that you threw a P00174 code (bank 1 too lean).... if this is the case, the CEL will probably go off on its own after a few drive cycles.

2. What grade of gas did you put in? (87, 89, 91, 93)? If you have always put in a higher grade, and then switched to a lower grade (ie... 93 to 87) chances are, since you have mods done the car is breathing more air than it did from the factory with the intake (making it run a bit leaner), and using the higher grade fuel had a higher detonation point then the lower grade fuel, so it stayed "richer" longer and the 02 sensors got used to this and saw it as normal..... then when you switched to the lower grade of gas (with the lower detonation point) the car had less of the "rich" condition that it did before and it just needed to recalibrate itself for the lower grade.... again, just driving it around for a hundred or so miles and a few drive cycles should cause the CEL to turn off on its own. (this is the same situation that I had happen.... switched from 93 to 87.... threw a CEL.... drove for a while normally... CEL went off.... went up to 89 octane, CEL never came back.)

3. When you changed out the parts, did you make certain to tighten things to proper torque, and make sure there were no vacume leaks?

1. I havent got a chance to get it scanned yet, I been busy working.. hopefully I'll get a chance today.
2. I have never pumped above or below 87 octane in my ever.. I'm actually thinking its the quality of the fuel now, but I could be wrong.. Thinking about going driving around town today and burning all the gas up and see what happens.
3. I couldnt make sure I torques them properly because I dont have a torque wrench but most of them requires just a tad bit over hand tight. I might have a small leak on the vacuum hose that runs from the intake to the intake manifold because I was having some length issuses but I kinda doubt that that'll cause a CEL because people put breathers on those w/o issuess..

Also, my idle will get stuck at 2k sometimes ill rev it up to 2k then let go of the gas pedal and it'll just stay there.. then I'll give the pedal a lil push for the rpm to jump a little bit then it comes back down. I know its not the throttle cables because it the pedal would be lower than usual so I'm guessing its some kind of air leak or fuel leak or ecu issue..
