Between the '08 Civic Si and the '07 Hyundai Tiburon SE, which would win off the line? The former has more than 20 hp yet the latter has over 40 more lb-ft of torque. My opinion would be the Tiburon smashing on the Civic at the get go until the Civic's 197 horses start to become a facter after the v-tec kicking in.

Civic:
197 hp @ 7800 rpm
139 torque @ 6100 rpm

Tiburon:
172 hp @ 6000 rpm
181 torque @ 3800 rpm

Both weigh almost the same...Civic being 100lb lighter I believe...

Re: Civc vs Tiburon

just race him and find out.
Are you both manual?
Actually I wasn't racing anybody in particular. I was just using these two cars as an example. But I DO have an 07 Tiburon SE and a friend of mine DOES have a Civic, but I think its an 05/06 and not an Si.

you off the line prolly then him beating u by 1.5 car assumeing equal drivers
This is what I was thinking too, but I see all these stupid videos on youtube and crap with "stock" tibbys beating "stock" civics in the quarter. Anyways, just slap on the i/h/e and its bye bye civic :)

How much is the overall torque affected by bolt ons btw???

better watch out bra' dat VTAC is gonna smoke u....lol.....i agree u off the line then he creeps by unless it is one of those 4 door autos....they = suckage
If it were an auto, then it wouldn't be an SI...

Civic would win.

lol...a 60ft is a 60ft...you guys dont have enough torque or traction to be braging about your off the line power...fact of the matter is equal drivers in both cars, the Si w/ its LSD would be a lot easier to punk the tib off the line, and with its high 14sec 1/4 capability; put about a bus lenght on a stock mid 15sec tib....reality...

+1 ... they just need to keep their rpms hight enough while feathering in the clutch to get as good or even better takeoff

Re: Civc vs Tiburon

LOL... one of the many reasons I barely pay attention to NT anymore... there are more people on here that a) don't even own a tib, or b) hate their own tib and wished they owned something else.

Honda rules FTW!!! Civic Si's with a tune can beat a Viper!!! Go FF forever!!!

oh yeah, and the best mod that adds 100 whp instantly to our tibs is the Honda H swap. Get rid of the crooked H FTW!!!

Unfortunately, stock for stock, the Civic would win.

Re: Civc vs Tiburon

VTEC (variable valve timing and lift electronic control) as it pertains to performance Honda's: (they also have things like e-vtec that are strictly for emissions and gas mileage) Basically, the camshaft has a regular lobe, and a high performance lobe, as compared to a normal camshaft, with just one lobe. At a certain rpm/load the engine computer swiches to the high performance cam lobe, enabling the engine to make power up to 8000 or 9000 rpm, while retaining perfect idle and emissions.

what is the v-tec and what do you guys mean by "wait until it kicks in"....and please no flaming this is a legitimate question in a HYUNDAI forum...[/QUOTE]

Re: Civc vs Tiburon

my bro bought an 07 civic si. yes it's nice, but I'm not impressed with the fact that the car costs about 4K more than a fully loaded tib. it doesn't have leather along with a few other options. Don't get me wrong the car is nice, but not for me. And I think that a tib would be faster. granted I have a cai, sts, & resonator removed from exhaust(very minor mods, imo). I still think the si is slow. And another thing with the si, that driver will have to shift faster than what a tib driver would have to. Hopefully this summer my bro and I will line up and see how it goes.

Re: Civc vs Tiburon

You want torque for a street car...well, at least I do.
I've passed the "having to downshift and wind it out to 8k just to pass" point of my life.

yes... to have power only near read line sucks, you need torque to enjoy driving your car... thats is why i hate when people try to compare to muscle cars.... cuz joy of riding car with alot of torque far surpasses joy that you can have in 4 banger that can do 1/4 a bit faster....
