i am sure it was not a supercharged one ... just regular SS (2.4L 175hp) with kids that dont know how to drive
S/C SS would have walked you no problem (mid 14s stock)

good kill. i really dont like cobalts, there the atempt at an American version of a tuner (but horribly failed). also they are beefy as hell. i had to drive one for drives Ed. and i hated the damn thing.

Not realy .. they did not fail ... their 3 engine choices are really good to mod ... a base model (2.2L 140hp) kept up with me until high gears with just E/H/I
Beat me to the punch, I used to work at a GM dealership and 4 of my friends own Cobalts, 2 of them 2.4L and the other 2 are stage 2 ss/sc.........I've got a 2.0L 400lbs lighter than the Tib Elantra GT with I/E+light flywheel and the 2.4L with a GMPP SRI always pulls on me no matter wat........nevermind the other guys with their stage 2 ss/sc, they are LONG GONE b4 I can even change gears. Now, take a base ss/sc with ZERO mods, completely stock, and I'm sure an I/E/H V6 2.7L tib would beat it. Don't forget ppl, there is now COUNTLESS 2.2L and 2.4L cobalts running around with SS badging and the big ss/sc high wing, lol don't be fooled:3_winkthu

bigger turbo?
lol someone doesn't know his recent car history, 05-07 SS/SUPERCHARGED cobalts were made, while alot of ppl love the style and look of the ss cobalt with the big wing it just didn't boast enough power........GM had already been using a 2.0L turbo setup on the SAAB 9-3 and the Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice. After trying out both the s/c and the turbo, GM decided the turbo made better power ect ect ect and changed Cobalt around, the 2.4L is no longer called an SS model, just the Cobalt Sport.......the SS was cut off from production for a year while they made adjustments for the new turbo setup they wanted. Yes i'm a fan cause 4 friends of mine own them and I worked at GM for about a year, of course im a fan.

I like the comment about a slightly modified 2.7L Tib beating a stock SS/SC, absolutely TRUE!!!! The stock ss/sc came with only 205hp and being a 2.0L engine was definately lacking a little torque.......But if you mod that ss/sc with the GM stage 2 kit and thrown on an even smaller pulley after I/E.........It's stupid fast, 3 series bimmers can't keep up, RSX's with turbos are a closer race, and WRX STi's an even closer race. The 2.2L cobalts mod for mod with a 2.0L Tib would good racin.

I don't understand, but my friend has a 06 cobalt SS and it's pretty quick I guess since we are pretty even when we raced. He has a stage 2 chip and some other things, but I doubt a non-boosted tiburon would even stand a chance with one, since mine is boosted and I barly pull away, but then again my car broke the 2nd race, so I will race him again when I get it fixed to get a better idea how fast it is. All I know is my car feels a hell of a lot faster, but when we raced it was pretty close.
The stock ss/sc is lame and pathedic powerwise, i took one for a test drive and didn't want it because of that........the stage 2 upgrade (tune+injectors+pulley) really wakes up the cars power, then u add an even smaller pulley and basically a stage 3 tune which turns the car into a real sleeper when ppl compare them to a stock ss/sc...........the V6 Tib is a big heaver than the Cobalt but that's where the top end comes in from the V6 to even out the race.

it is true that lightly moded tiby can beat a SC/SS but it is due to drivers not because of cars, it takes more then E/H/I for tiby to be equal
And no, 2.2L cobalt is faster stock and mod for mod against 2.0L tiby because cobalt is lighter and has better engine

By the sound of his story .. it was 2.4 L SS (mid 15s stock)
lol sry forgot bout the tib weight, hehe, my elantra currently is at least 400lbs lighter than the tib so mod for mod my Elantra is equal with the 2.2L cobalts and with fuel tuning plus my current mods I could keep up with a 2.4 with GMPP intake and maybe even beat him, tho, it would be like 4 mods vs 1mod lol

You must not know much about the delta. The top end of the Delta is weak as hell. That only really changes with either cams or a NGM stage 4 Intake Manifold setup or both.
I know the Delta isn't as strong of a block compared to the Beta, i test drove a stock 5spd Delta b4 and my Elantra with I/E feels much quicker......the stock delta feels slugish to me. I have a friend local who owns an 03GSR with stage 3 IM from NGM(upper/lower) and intake/exhaust, he beats the stock ss/sc cobalts but soon as that stage 2 and a proper cold air intake goes on the cobalt, he can no longer win. Whether anyone likes it or not, the proper mods on a Cobalt ss/sc makes for a very fast ride.......and believe it or not, when driven nicely it can get some good MPG, even with mods......the delta would NEVER get the kinda MPG the cobalt gets, and as for overall TOP performance, the cobalt ss/sc keeps up with the Tib sc from NGM. Take a look at cobaltss.net in the racing section and you will see their top 1/4 mile times are nearly exact to the Tib sc by NGM.

Both times so very close to each other and both are only using the stock s/c with supporting mods, no N02, no meth kits..........
