I used to sell them when I worked at RadioShack. They are pretty damn handy.

Hey a fellow EX Radioshack Employee :) You must have been selling one of the good batches, because that product had the highest return rate in my store. At one point we were taking 3 back a day, because people couldnt stand them and they said that they didnt work worth a damn. I have one and I like it for very very simple projects, but anything more than a single 22 gauge wire and it becomes useless IMO. Now people returning it.............well I'm betting that they were to stupid to understand that is for small jobs and not Car audio power wires. I didnt work in the best part of town :(

On a side the note I do kind of miss see the morons that would come in with a 1000watt Kicker or Kenwood Amp, that you can tell they stole from somewhere, because it would either have the tags ripped off or there would be wires hanging off of it . Then they would ask if we had any of the "THICK RED AND BLACK WIRES" for the battery. At the time all we had was crappy 8 gauge wire that was sold by the foot . No matter how many times I would explain to them that 8 gauge is to small for that amp they would still buy it and the next week I would see them coming back in *****ing that it didnt work and the wire sucks. Well when you have 1000 watts of stolen power and god knows what kind of sub and you are trying to power it with super small wire what do you expect. Not mention they *****ed when I told them that is was $1 a foot. Well anyways that is the only thing that I miss about being a slave at the Sh$t Shack. I'm amazed at how dumb some people really are, Radioshack employees included. Best thing I did so far in my life was leave that company......Well Im done with my rant, sorry :)

I worked there for 4 years, radioshack, last 2 years as a store manager. The company sucks, I sold my stock, sued them for unemployment(I won), still in class action lawsuit about how they DID NOT PAY managers the correct way(been going on for over 2 years now). They are very overpriced, and cellphones in the ONLY thing that keeps them alive. They are getting out of the parts business(which back in the day, they were known for) and into electronics such as cellphones, satellite dishes, cables, and batterys.

ohh btw, I did sell my stock before it pummeled(thank god) :3_usehead

The way this thing works is like an arc-welder. There are two metal contacts in a heat resistant tip. To heat something like a wire, BOTH contacts must be in contact with the surface at all times. This can be a pain to do, especially on a surface that's not flat. I've used mine a few times, it just takes some getting used to, and holding it just right.

I worked there for 6 years, and turned down management many times, because of the way they treat their employees. I know they just fired their P and VP for lying on their resume and they are closing 400 stores all over the country, and I think that is just a start. I can see them going under all together because they cant make profit like they used to and they are trying to compete with the big box retailors, but yet they are WAY over priced, wont price match and really dont have anything to get customers to come in. When I started the stock price was $80 and when I quit it was $18, so yeah that is just the start of their sinking ship, and I CANT WAIT :)

On topic: I found that the tips get ruined VERY FAST. So if you are going to get one I would get a few spare tips

Yeah i got mine at harbor freight tools and when i took it back he said almost all of them they sold came back. I was trying to soider two 16 guage wires together (a piller gauges) tried for about 10 min got some sparks and that was about it.
