I think excessive speed and crashing into a tree had more to do with it than not using his seat belt. The lesson learned should be wear your seat belt, don't speed and don't hit a tree.

Ya we had a few high school kids go over a hundred miles per hour and hit a tree and then a wall the car caught on fire then exploded. I was a first responder to it, and it was a horrible scene. unfortunately drugs and alcohol were a factor. All three occupants were killed.

People need to learn that residential street are not race tracks and are not meant for high rates of speed. anything over 70-80mph should be taken to a track were their track is meant to driven on over 100mph.

and yes depending on how fast he was going even if he was wearing a seat belt he most likely would have died. Seat belts and air bags are meant for low to medium speeds not 100+.

that's just plain wrong, what is wrong with you. some kid dies and you think it's funny grow up you don't have ANY of the facts for all we know he could have swerved to avoid a deer, on coming car that went into his lane or it could have been some dik with 10k hid's to where he couldn't see where he was going. and even if it was drug and/or alcohol related a man lost his life and that is nothing to laugh at. :3_ban:

We'd need a picture of the car to identify someone as a forum member, as most people don't use their name here. RIP.

I'm sorry but that sounds hilarious
Not hilarious but humurous in a very juvenile way. I kinda chuckled at that line too.

LOL no not like a hall monitor, not unless the hall monitor can carry a gun and your a** lol. I can write tickets, arrest people, I do everything a cop does except I'm not getting paid.
No thanks, I don't think I want you to carry my a**. Lol From the sounds of it, you're a volunteer sheriff or something similar to that.

Edit: this is what I get for trying to use my Droid while on the job lol

That sucks for the guys family. When are kids going to learn to keep it on the track. Just last week a local guy wrecked his Tib street racing. He wasn't hurt but; no more car, probably gonna get a fine and probably will lose his liscense for a while.

Fixed but I still do not want! Lol

Good on you for volunteering. In my area, they would never give a civilian a gun.

Hopefully, the person in the crash wasn't a member on here, we already lost too many already.

Two, right? scftw and EliteWarMachine? Any is too many, but take a look at your average bike forum, and they've lost ten times that.

After reading much about SCFW and the letter one of our OPs sent to his family, there is nothing humorous about this. A large population of people on this site are under the age of 25 (mostly due to the cost of buying our car of choice) & rather than trolls and newf4gs turning this into a comedic event, let's all try to be more realistic. Everyone can be as fake as they want on a car forum, but it's difficult to do the same when it's you or a friend who's the one in the morgue...

Speeding, no seatbelt, street racing, obvious overconfidence... I read posts and see videos of young drivers from our forum doing this all the time. Fact of the matter is people who have built race cars go to the track. They do it because they realize how dangerous the sport of auto racing is and the risks involved. When a less experienced driver attempts to do the same on the street, sadly this can be the outcome as we've seen before.

My heart goes out to the family of the driver. No mother or father should have to go through that. How would the posts change if we were to find out it was a well known OP or VIP members?... Keep it on the track, period. You can keep the family guy style comments out of this thread...

red: yeah, posting would be almost impossible from beyond...

Seriously, excellent post but I will not retract what I've said. I was not making light of the situation, only the juvenilistic humor in the opening sentence. Of course his parents don't deserve to suffer the pain of losing a child but IMO, they should have emphasized driving safety a bit stronger and maybe, he wouldn't have gotten in the car and took off without a seatbelt, speeding on what I would guess is a small or backroad at night and ultimately causing his own death. He made several bad choices which produced a tragic chain of events. No one can predict anything like this but I can guarantee one thing: you will never see me in a car without my seatbelt, whether it's a 5-minute trip to the store, a night out driving or a long trip. As it's been stated so many times in many threads, particularly the street racing ones, if one person reads this and changes his driving habits, then we've all done the right thing.

jwb, on another note, your line about the people on this site being young because of the cost of Tibs is confusing. The price of the car has no bearing on the age of the purchaser. I'm guessing you meant that younger people bought the Tib because it's inexpensive.

The funny thing is dernt....he is probably laughing too. Except he probably thought he would get praise for not admitting that he found the wording funny as we did.
