i was reading another thread on here......it was about making the exhaust souind deeper and less ricey........and then someone suggested that putting on a camaro muffler or something will help give it a deeper..more aggressive tone....

does this work?.......has anyone tried it?

i am thinking of running a camaro muffler with my other on my single..just if it improves sound even more

like this....-----cat---piping----camaro muffler-----piping------my megan racing muffler..

would this be effective at all?....

and cause HP loss, add huge resonation issues, and a ricey tone in the higher RPM.

I completely disagree. Unless you way over do it, like 3" piping. Most aftermarket catbacks are larger piping than stock, and a larger resonator, with a hp increase. Headers are larger piping, less rectrictive, and give you higher rpm hp increase. I have a DC sports CB with one of the largest resonators out there, and you can't make it sound ricey, even if your all the way up in the rpms.

best i have found as far as deep is the borla exhaust

my sri and mussa exhaust sound like a lion roaring when i start my car up.

and i dont mean a baby lion either.

it isnt loud at high rpms however but it never turns "ricey" and it's still deep ... the borla didnt sound as deep in comparison.

im kind of glad it isnt super loud at high rpms... ive been around a lot of sheriffs lately. i dont think theyd take kindly to a super loud exhaust system :p

ive had my car for less than 2k miles and ive already had to pop my hood to check if my car is street legal =[

so to get a deep tone through all RPMS...high and low (no ricey sound)....without losing HP.....i should just get a larger resonater?....

i already have 2.5" stainless piping...and i'm looking for an even deeper tone then i have right now...

does anyone have a link to a resonator on ebay or anything like that which will give me a deep aggressive tone without losing hp?..

i really have no clue what to look for and which brands when it comes to a resonator...

do you have a cat? a cat elimates alot of the buzziness. my car sounds very deep, except at full throttle theres still a bit of buzz. its more about thottle position than it is rpm.

another suggestion would be to just replace the megan racing muffler with something else until you find the sound youre looking for.. the muffler(s) probably have the most effect on your overall sound. flowmasters sound extremely good on tibs... *almost* a muscle car sound; whereas the japanese style mufflers are going to sound, well, japanese...

edit: i forgot to mention the Car Chemistry Insert... theres a thread about it in the product reviews section.. i dont have one but my buddy does and his tib sounds unnbelievable good. you may lose alittle hp, but youll get alot less attention on the street and alot less "drone"

that helped a lot alpine white...

i'm gonna get another cat.....i'm trying to find a good high flow cat...and any resonator helps?...

this will prevent me from losing horsepower correct?....how much HP is lost with the car chemistry thing?...i'm gonna be boosted in the future...wil this affect it in any way?...

EDIT....simply put....how can i get an STI sound?.....i wanna get that sexy STi sound.........anyone?

i know putting a boxter motor will give me the sound...lol

i should've said......how can i get a sound similar to that one.....

iguess to get a deep aggressive tone.....i should just get a high flow cat....and if that doesn't give me the sound i want...i'll add a resonator......

One of the best sounding tiburons i ever heard was Dman's car. He had Hotshot headers, a Greddy Evo 2 exhaust, but had added in a hushpower resonator. Car sounded real freakin good in my opinion, i was jealous. A good thick walled set of headers goes a long way toward getting rid of the rice sound... the hushpower helped because it silences the higher tones so that ricey blat goes away and all you hear is that sweet sexy bassy note.

ok....i'm gonna look into a resonator...

is that the correct magnaflow high flow cat though?..

thanks for all ur help guys!

#21 ·
okl...thanks...

alright....i got all the info i needed...someone kill this thread...lol..

#22 ·
I was meaning 3"+ pipes

#24 ·
Ok, can someone please inform me on how these exhausts are "deep" or "throaty" or whatever you call it...??

#25 ·
you mean how to get the sound?..or how the sound is produced?....

i have no clue how the sounds produced...i think it really depends on the muffler..

and to get the sound....just do what was mentioned in this thread....resonator.......larger piping....and a high flow cat

Sorta, but I was hoping someone could show me with a video or something explaining or indicating the difference. To me all these aftermarket exhausts sound the same, but people say, "man that's a deep tone.." or "nice and throaty" etc. etc. I just don't get it when someone says deep or throaty...it all sounds a bit high to me.

Those last two sound much better then the first two...but I've never heard a tiburon sound like those two wrx's. But of course boxer engine + turbo will do that.

:) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0OaJj8B3O0 that's more of what I thought they were trying to achieve.

ye...i wish my tib had a boxer motor...
lol

and that muscle car sound is very difficult to acheivewith a tib also

and sky.j....yes...a catback will get a better sound depending on which one u get.....but i have a custom xhaust....its much cheaper then buying an aftermaret katback...and it gives the same performance upgrades...andyou can make it sound however you want it..

#32 ·
thats sweet...you got any sound clips?

#33 ·
deep sound = borla... i got the DC sports headers with no cat with the borla catback and injen SRI... wow is all i can say... it took the borla exhaust which was low and deep and amplified the sound without getting raspy... the borla resonator is huge and even without a cat this exhaust system cannot get raspy... best way to go imo is borla mufflers and resonator i got a soundclip on myspace ill pm you a link to if you wanna hear it
