Helloooo

Question, what happends if get the original bar of the shifter and cut it to make it shorter? will that work fine? what is the difference beetween that and a original one?

Thanks please discuss

anyone has done this before?
Well i havent done it on my tibby, but before i had my tib i had a accent. And i did it on that. Just used bandsaw and cut it. felt really good!! Just dont cut it to short.

For my tibby this time i'll just get a new STS.

Good luck!

and then what do you do with the shift knob? super glue?

It will work, but just cutting it instead of putting a STS in actually makes shifting harder, although quicker, because you aren't changing the pivot point while shortening it. Also, on the 5 spd TWM STS, they not only lower the pivot point, they also readjust the stock angle on the upper part of the shifter to accomodate for the shortening.
Check out the picture to give you a little bit of any idea:

Nope, Went to the auto parts store, got a shift knob that had those plastic caps spacers, it might not be the best thing to do, but at the same time it was a accent..

It might be cheap way to do it, but nothing will beat a good STS from TWM.

Good luck!

rep for you for knowing what makes an STS an STS. as stated, simply cutting the nob DOES NOT shorten the throw. you may think it does, but since you dont change the pivot point the actual throw is not touched.

and as far as a DIY please search our DIY section.

yep but it look nicer and since im not planing on buying this.... i just gave it a thought while a was stuc in a car jam

Hey man i was thinking of doing this myself. I know Basstib fabbed up our stock shifters and i have a picture of one that he fabbed up. It has a 60% throw reduction its rediculous.

i did this for myself and a few of my friends.

you saw the original shifter down to any size you want, then re tread it, screw your shift knob back on it.

in my opinion, i would save the money id spend on a STS and just saw the original down.

my friend bought the ark sts, looks ugly, makes a cluncky noise whilst shifting, and gets mad hot on a hot day.

i prefer the OEM look, i just hate the OEM horse dick shifter,so i cut mine....

Here is the Basstib STS installed on my car. 60 % throw reduction.

And here is the shifter.

Hope that helps. Since my car is down im going to do this myself in the next few days.

So its just cutting down there is nothing to do in the inner mechanism... sounds good the thing is taht i just got my new shift knob from seoulfulracing that has the 6 speeds and the chromie in the side so i thought i would look good in that long stick of the oem one

You have to cut the reverse lockout and you also have to cut the metal piece.

reverse lockout is only on 6spd tibs where u have to go through 6th gear to get to reverse. you have to lift up a little circle at the top of the shift boot which moves a little lever which allows you to get into reverse.
