I recently just found out Im going to be stationed in Japan (Okinawa), and I dont know if I should sell my tibby here in the U.S. or keep it.

Aside from that, should I get an import from Japan?! I want a Supra :D

I was just talking to a recruiter and he said he was stationed in Japan for awhile. He got there and right away bought a R32 skyline for only 4K. I say you sell the tibby and get your supra.

more than likely, you're only going to be in japan for about 2 years. theyre going to ask if you wanna extend your tour there, which would allow you either stay there or return to the states. think about that real hard, because if you sell the tib, then decide that you dont like it there in japan, you're going to be returning to the states with nothing, and then you're going to waste all that money on a supra that you're just going to have to sell before you leave.

yea they are so cheap over there

and then to buy one over here its 20k and up (unless it has 200k miles and ripped to shread)

AHHH YEAH!!!!!

you can import them but you have to import a fairly non rare car. ie r32 skyline shouldnt give you much greif. i know the really rare ones. such as s15 silvias and such havnt been imported much so they have to be crash tested. pretty much if there are enough of the car imported it gets easier. such as no crash test. emissions are easy. and id be willing to bet you could just put a USDM exaust modified off a 300zx would fit. btw im talking for the skyline still. the supra i know the is300 exhaust should fit. they share the same motor. however im talking about a mark IV supra. id say try it. if nothing else you will be able to come home with some BAD *** pictures and be like guess what i owned? yeah thats right a supra. or GTR

I can't speak for the AF, as I'm in the Navy, but the Navy shipped my car from Oregon to Hawaii for free. All I had to do is drop it off at the shipping company, do a quick inspection and I got it about a month later. And I know when I leave the island they will ship it to my next duty station as well.

sell the tib and get a real car lol
ie. a skyline or a supra

r33 gtr vspec ftw!

well thank you newo :) what was i thinking lol :)

Newo is correct. You could have the Supra sent back to the States but the cost and aggaravation involved so it will pass our emission requirements are not really worth it. When I went to japan, I bought a Skyline and I wanted to bring it back so bad but when I started all the processing and the $ started adding up, I bailed on it and sold it to my buddy who was staying behind. It's simply not worth all the work. Don't remember who said it but you do not need a car in Japan. I think I drove my car a total of a bout 3 weeks the whole time I was there in 2 years just because it's cheaper and quicker to take the train everywhere.

for starters your orders will determine whether you can bring a car back or not at government expense (they will do all the work too). secondly, bringing a car back and the costs involved in making it legal for the roads in america is based on the car. some require more modifications than others. if you want to get one here and ship it back, its not too hard. get your personnel office to add it into your orders when you go to pcs back (most will unless theyre *****), just be sure to find out what the costs are and save to have the car modified. but remember, you get what you pay for. if youre lucky enough to find a nice car with a low price, its either got alot of miles or something wrong with it. in the extremely rare case, theres nothing wrong with it and someone is just tryin to be rid of it (cant leave until its signed over to someone else). also, get whatever car you want.

now, the question at hand...if you like your car, keep it. nothing wrong with that. mine sits in the garage at my house to use when im on leave and for when i pcs back next year. and its almost paid off. so not only will it reflect good on my credit but it'll be 100% mine. good enough reason to keep it in my book.

got any questions, feel free to pm me.

Good luck with whatever you decide.IMO I say get something. Go find out what is easyer to ship over 1st. Then go find a r32 or supra and buy it. Its a once and a lifetime thing ..no one can get them here ..also think if u ship 2 and sell one with low miles back home that might cover the cost of bolth. A supra with low miles will easily go for 30-40K.
Good luck !

there is no "easiest to ship", and i HIGHLY doubt anyone in the military has enough money to be shipping cars from country to country.
shippin the car in itself doesnt cost THAT much, most of the cost comes from modifying the car to meet us specs. besides, the government will pay for the shippin cost, its up to him to have the car inspected and altered as needed once it reaches the us.
