So...Heading to the Hiway this morning, Cruising maybe 60 on an open street, some semi creeps across the road, I assume he will stop but obvious (from the title) not so lucky. Hit the drivers side rear end of the car (right after my door) spun the car around cracking the passenger side rim on a curb. Car may be totalled. Entire quarter panel crushed past tire, other damage to drivers side. Depends on frame damage if it gets totalled, we will see I guess.

Kinda funny, only airbag to go off was one on the passnger side seat (which I did not even know the seats had airbags). Well, hopefully it will be alright and I will back with the tib.

Its a shame, Just bought it in April, 2006 with 5,000 miles on it.

Well boyz, hope to be back eventually.

OK, sorry to sound like a jerk here but let me get the facts right:
- you were doing 60 on a regular street (ie speeding)
- saw the truck entering your lane and ASSumed he would stop but you did nothing to avoid the accident?

Sound like it was your fault to me.

Seriously, I'm sorry this happened and it's a shame but you should never ASSume in that situation. Glad you're OK. Hope everything works out for you.

Never knew you should avoid people who are coming up behind you.. See, I figure anyone coming up behind me would stop, what idiot wouldnt? :3_plzdie: And some "Open Streets" here in NY where I live are 55MPH Speed Limit.

sorry, but i dont know a single person that doesnt go at least 5 over the limit... not like cops care. ive passed cops taking radar on the highway doing 74 in a 65 and never once been pulled over.

actually, if you swerve when an animal crosses your path, its deemed your fault for anything that happens. Just ask Nemo.....

on a side note, i saw a corvette's front end wedged under the back side of another car on 347 today... i actually laughed. It didn't look like anyone was hurt, so i didn't feel bad. Guess the guy in front shouldn't have assumed the vette was gonna stop... lol

And yes... ALWAYS yield to semi's.... it don't matter how fast you're going or how big your car is. They always win.... lol

im gonna have to agree with Nova on this one......i work with 18 wheelers all damn day.....it is definately not easy to drive a semi....especially my drivers are hauling anywhere from 80,000-100,000 GROSS precast concrete wall panels.......yes, granted they are supposed to be the more "professional" drivers, but you as the 4-wheeler need to be aware and more cautious....its not easy driving or turning a semi.....and visibility is more poor than driving a car (obvious) and they can not move as fast as a 4-wheeler (even more obvious). Points should be assigned to both parties cuz 1. The semi was blocking an open road during driving hours 2. You failed to yield to avoid a collission (there is no such thing as an accident)

yeah, I always yield to the semis on highway. I flash em so that they know they can change lanes and i hold up the traffic so they can get in. Its payed off in karma cause plenty of semis have let me slip past when one is trying to pass another...

I was right, you do need help.

So...Heading to the Hiway this morning, Cruising maybe 60 on an open street,
Highway... normally a road that has a speed limit of 55+ and multiple lanes.
He was heading "TO the hiway". That means he wasn't ON a highway. He clearly stated he was "on an open STREET. Not a highway.

some semi creeps across the road, I assume he will stop but obvious (from the title) not so lucky.
Semi-truck starts to amble across the street without a care for traffic as they do near my warehouse on a daily basis. Most cars hit the brakes at the last minute because they're not used to dealing with truck drivers.
Right, the truck driver comes across the street and ex_swappage SEES this in front of him. Instead of slowing down because a vehicle is crossing his path (regardless that the truck was in the wrong) he chose to keep going. That was a bad choice by a poor driver. A good driver would anticipate the accident and drive defensively, not offensively.

wow regardless if it was his fault or not i dont believe this is a moment 2 judge him and point fingers you have probably been in a crash yourself ( not trying 2 assume) but you should know that situation sucks so have a little respect man.

OK. . .well looksl ike boys will be boys. . . perhaps we have all strayed away from whats most important here! Swapped is alive and well and whom ever is at fault it doesn't matter cuz you have your life and perhaps a nice big check on the way so best of luck and we should ALL just be a little more careful!
