I am interested in buy a new exhaust. Well I've heard different things from people.

1. For starters I've heard pipes are pipes it doesn't matter what brand name it is. If this is true then why is there $300 differences because of name? False or correct?

2. I've heard people say exhausts that sound deep only do so because of the bends in the pipes. Nothing special just the bends? False or correct?

I have two different friends one is completely American muscle the other is strictly JDM. So I am in the middle with the Korean car :3_winkthu . Anyways my import buddy got his exhaust for under $150 but it sounds like your normal Honda. (He drives an accord.) It doesn't sound rice just has a lot of rasp, and is high pitched. Then my muscle friend laughs when I show him the exhaust system I want (ARK). Both think it is crazy to spend over $800 for an exhaust. Well I don't want my car to sound rice but yet I do not want to spend so much just for pipes:3_confuse

Side note: I might in the future get a SFR high flow cat still not sure.

Here is my question I like the Ark exhaust but I do not want to spend the money because I probably can't save the money up long enough to get it. Is there a muffler that has the import look http://www.kdmstuff.com/shop/step1.php?number=355 . Something like SFR's exhaust except I want dual. I like the big can looking exhausts but not the rice sound. I do not want to go with a flowmaster or magnaflow exhaust because I don't want my exhaust to look like it belongs on a camaro, or mustang. Make sense? Flowmasters from what I have heard and seen sound great but the look just doesn't fit an import IMO. Anyone know of any mufflers that would suit what I am looking for? "I am looking for 3.0 or 2.5 (if I have to) ID, 2.5 OD."

My second question. If there is any mufflers that suit what I am looking for should I go with the mufflers and get a custom piping, ect. Or should I get a full named system something like Ark?

i personaly run an ark with ssa headers ( well idk the name brand but thats what there close to) and i love how it sounds.

as far as the bends making it deep thats a no. yes the bends can change the sound but i would think its minimal though how restrictive they are will effect sound and performance. but the biggest thing that effects sound is the pipe diameter and muffler.

if your staying n/a there is no reason to get any bigger then a 2.5 inch piping as its just a waste for more on the tib. if you want a custom exhaust with 2 big tuner mufflers (yes fart cans but god i hate using that when it sounds nice). i guess you could try using some off ebay for real cheap but i haven't had any experience with them so i couldn't tell you if it would work out or not. either way you should put a resonator in the exhaust after the cat.

hope that helps a bit i know i didnt answer all q's but im not sure on some.

also i wouldnt get the sfr cat id go with a magnaflow or flow masters high flow off of ebay like 55 shipped. sorry to undermine the whole sponsor thing on that one but when you can get a good quality part that works just the same for cheaper thats the way im gonna go.

Okay thanks for all the info guys. On a side note umm wow I didn't even know it posted this already because I didn't finish doing the poll I was gonna do.

If you get ebay exhaust and replace resonator it will sound deep and no rasp...

Okay so if I get just about any 2.5 or 3.0 pipping, 2.5 ID muffler, and replace the resonator with something like a magnaflow or flowmaster resonator it will sound deep. Correct? BTW I do play on going F/I no time soon of course maybe in two years given I have no finical problems.

if you are planning on F/I, then get a minimum of 2.5". 2.25" will be restrictive and you will lose some HP there. I think the general consensus here is 2.5" dual exhaust or a single 3" if you are going F/I...

I dont see why. Its not a true dual. Infact it flows worse because of the split. It also doesnt flow evenly usually. A 3" single will flow a lot more then a 2.5" fake dual exhaust.

MAF positioning for one...
Why even post something like that?

Pipes are pipes, the only difference is the bends and the material. You can buy a cheaper stainless exhaust that won't rust for a long time but won't look near as good in a few years after it gets tarnished. If the pipes are mandrel bent they are going to flow good, you could go and start saving money now and buy headers, a magnaflow high flow cat and a exhaust for the same price as a Ark Exhaust alone...

well, i meant a dual tip exhaust. i'm sure you know what i was talking about.
plus, many of us aren't going for that 441whp or even low 300's for that matter.
but yeah, the other consensus was, if you really want the best benefit, go for a 3" single.
as much as i would like to, i think it would look weird on mine, or at least the 07-08. just my opinion.

edit: I guess you could block off one of the tips or whatever where the split occurs, but that would be a waste of money and etc... but technically, i fyou do it right, it would kinda be like a 2.5" or whatever.......... awwww screw it, i'm too tired to think about this stuff...........
