i was wondering if anyone ever took theirs apart, and if so how because i;m looking to replace the light in it to a white LED, and i can't see how to take the actual ring out without removing the dash. i can get the two black rings off but nothing else

sorry... i tried a search but to no avail

Is the green factory backlight a bulb or LED?

Wow great job Chelito. I think I may end up changing mine now that I know it isn't too hard.

Actually you don't even need to take that piece off, you can just reach in with the center fascia and stereo pulled out and twist the bulb out. There's more room to work on it this way. And it is a bulb, not a LED, I soldered one in with a resistor though and it looks great!

im not certain but i think any colored bulb has sortof a colored rubber "condom" that goes over the actual bulb IE: i know for sure in automatics the + and - on the shiftronic have those caps. so it is possible to find a red cap and just cover the bulb.

These are very tiny bulbs ive taken a few out of other vehicles before they are somethin like #74 size. im not for sure if thats what bulb it is i wont know until i see it but those bulbs are used in the shiftronic and in the HVAC so its very possible for it to be used in the ignition ring

http://www.diodedynamics.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=51_64 right there. those LED's are great too i used 3 of them in my HVAC, they work alot better than normal LED's

unless you were talking about the actual bulbs instead of LED's which would probably have a better angle of light so there arent any dark spots. that would be cool, i would probably be more apt to get the bulbs instead of the LED
