I did everything in my power to not buy an Injen SRI, because I did not believe it was worth the cost. I tried the K&N stock filter replacement. Joke. I clamped a Pep Boys cone filter to my motor. Better, but still the suck. Finally, I dropped the $$$ on an Injen SRI, since the supercharger is going to need air.
What a difference.
At idle and low RPM, the Injen isn't really audible. If your tib is cold when you start it up, you will hear the intake sucking tons of air, which sounds neat first thing in the morning, but beyond that, it's nice and quiet.
When you stomp on it, your car sounds badass. There is only the faintest hint of rice at about 4K RPM in first, but it is still deep and throaty. I was driving around after doing the install, and each time I punched it, everyone under 50 turned around to see what was coming. It sounds awesome.
As far as performance goes, the Injen really is better than stock and the cone filter. I don't know why - I'm no fluid flow engineer - but there is more power across the band. When I had the ghetto cone filter, I had more low end power, but I felt it really drop off at around 6K RPM. The Injen keeps pulling all the way to redline.
I can't wait to hear what the combination of K&N SRI and the Injen SES catback - that should come soon! I'll post sound clips and a review once the catback and the supercharger are all playing together.
So, in summary, the Injen SRI gets 10 out of 10 stars. Take it from this cheap bastard - it's worth the $$$. Note that I have not tried other SRIs, so please spare me the argument that the Injen costs too much and you should buy something else - of the three things I've tried, the Injen sounds great, looks great, and performs as advertised.
