Well I was at work today and yet again something else has got me thinking about my next mod. Some guy that works at an interior shop said you can dye leather to any color you want to. so I figured photoshop time! heres my idea. it would cost around 40 bucks once all is said and done to get a two tone interior. including dyeing the carpet too.

Hey guys, I'll let you all know how it goes as soon as I get a little more research done. I would think if its this easy then everyone would be doing it right? maybe noone knows about it or something but its always worth a shot so I'm going to try it out as soon as I can find a dealer of these products in IL. supposedly some place like autozone. but anyway, I'll let yall know.

That looks pretty cool...especially if it would only be $40. Make sure the stuff works on fake leather too. If that's the stock shift boot, then it's vinyl, not real leather. Also, does anyone know which parts of the seats are real leather? I know that only part of the seats are real leather and the rest is vinyl. There have been a few threads in the past where people were debating which parts are real and which are not. I tend to believe that the center parts of the seats are the real leather and the edges are the vinyl parts, but I've seen people say it's exactly the opposite. Here are some of the threads this has been mentioned:

Anyway...if the dye works on fake leather as well as real leather, then you'll be all set. If it doesn't, then make sure the parts you're planning on dying are in fact real.

Real nice. How many different colors do they have?

unlimited. the dier mixes the die on the spot. i had to have a piece of my leather seat repaired and a guy came out to my house (hyundai sent a 3rd party) and he mixed up die and re-died it. now, i doubt u can go from black to white or something like that, but tinting a black seat to a maroon like this guy wants should def be feasible. once you die it, it is done for life as far as the one guy told me. it is just like dieing the leather black. it stays that way. i actually have a jar of the color he mixed for our seats just in case i ever need it again.

dont know how possible dying black leather with red dye will work being it's a darker color, but yea i'd do some more research before u do anything, and if u wanna test anything i'd do your leather shifter thing, that will be the cheapest to replace if crap goes wrong

If you do it, make sure you wear something really dark for a long time. I'm guessing it will bleed for quite awhile, no matter how good a job they do. Also, there are holes in the leather in the middle of the seat which will capture more dye. I wonder what would happen in the summer when you're sitting on those seats and sweating a bit...

hope it works out for ya, but i dont think its the complete answer to changing your leather color. it'll just come out as more of a shade of a red,blue..and on and on. but hopefully its what your looking for. but for 40 bucks, it sounds too good to be true. just my .02

You can go to any paint shop and they can mix up any color you want of a vinyl dye. Its a little costly for a good brand tho. It takes a few coats to cover black especially if you want to do a light color like white or light yellow. Im sure it can be done. We did my husbands old cavalier from tan to baby blue. its on cardomain--tifflover1212 we sold it tho.
